Bounced Cheque - £25 charge - A&L

On the 14th November a cheque that I had paid out for over £1000 bounced. On the same day a cheque I had deposited a few days before into the account to cover the cheque going out had cleared. If I ring my bank, A&L, and explain the oversight are they likely to refund the £25 charge?
This is the first charge ever that I've had since I started banking with A&L 2 year ago.
On the 15th I issued a new cheque of over £1000 to the company who recieved the bounced cheque from me. Then today I got a letter from A&L saying that the "presenting bank has been asked to re-present the cheque to us in a few days". Does this mean I'm going to end up paying this company twice? Only there is not enough funds in the account to cover two £1000 cheques therefore me getting another £25 charge. Should I of asked for the bounced cheque back from the company first before issuing a new one?

I've also incurred one charge from A&L in my two years with them. My fault, I got the dates confused, but they waived the charge when I rang them as it was my first 'offence'. There's nothing to lose by asking the question.0

Yes - that's exactly what you're on track to do. Contact them and ask they destroy the latest cheque .... as they have a re-presentation policy with their Bankers, they shouldn't object. And / or ..... put a Stop on it with your Bank.If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -

Damn. They were pretty hot off the press to deposit the first cheque so I'm sure they would of already of deposited the 2nd cheque.0 -
Just phoned A&L and was told that they will not refund the charge unless it was a "bank error" and the guy just kept going on about the hight court test case or whatever. :mad:

I'm assuming you issued the 2nd one (15th) by post. So the earliest it can hit your account is overnight between Mon 19th / Tue 20th. Which allows you Mon morning to ring them and, depending on response, then go on to place a Stop with your Bank. But make sure it's the replacement cheque you Stop (and you will need to talk nicely to your Bank to stop them imposing a charge - typically £7 - £10) - as the original cheque is with your creditors Bank for re-presentation. And your creditors won't be amused if that bounces a 2nd timeIf you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -

The company was paid the cheque on the 15th by hand (local company). Phoned A&L early this morning to have the cheque stopped and they going to charge me £10 for this. Do you think if I ring back and ask nicely they will refund the £10 based on the situation?
I will phone my creditor on Monday morning and explain that the first cheque is being re-presented/needs to be re-presented.
