Selling a freehold mixed use property.

Hello,
I've just given my property to an estate agent to sell. It's a one bedroom flat and three small commercial units (offices !!! workshops). A few years ago when I sold my parents' house (freehold and no mortgage, the same as the current property), I didn't use a solicitor having read up about it I understood that the solicitor when selling is basically 'a postbox' where requested documents are delivered and passed on. I had no trouble dealing with that and am wondering if there's any reason selling this property should be any more complicated.
Subsequent experiences with solicitors when buying have been frustrating as they have taken so long to deal with each stage. Even when selling my parents' house, it was the buyer's solicitor that held it up by being slow.
Any experiences or input would be much appreciated.
