Travel Insurance question

When trying to arrange travel insurance I have been asked whether I have had a hospital appointment or have one booked in the future in the last 12 months. Last year I had one booked for the future (dermatology dept, nothing serious which I explained to them) but because I said I had they wouldn’t insure me. I contacted another company and got the same answer.

How and where do people get insurance because I can’t imagine there can be many people who DON’T have appointments booked. What about people who have, say, serious health problems. How do they go on if I can’t even get cover when I ma generally in good health with no serious illnesses?

Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.

Have you read the MSE page on pre-existing conditions?

There might be useful pointers there.

A bit of a stretch to call a minor skin complaint a "pre-existing condition" though, shouldnt really require specialist insurance.

Problem is, if you dont mention it and then you have a heart attack abroad, they probably wouldnt pay out.

If the appointment is in the future one cannot know it is only 'minor'. Skin complaints and dermatology rings warning bells about malignant skin cancers....
IIRC many ins co's will insure *excluding* the declared conditions or illnesses.
The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....

Insurance can only assess the risk involved when they know what the condition is.

People with illnesses have a condition name and that risk can be assessed.

It is the unknown that is the problem.
