iPhone 4s > 5s

My wife has an iphone 4s that she uses for calls/texts (1pMobile-EE network) plus internet access through our home broadband. She doesn’t use, or need, mobile data.

She’s been advised that her NatWest banking App will cease to function very shortly because the App will only work in future with ios10 and above;...the 4s cannot be upgraded to ios10.

She would like to buy a used iphone 5s as a replacement. She doesn’t want a larger phone/screen,...she prefers dinky sized phones.

Is a second hand iphone 5s a go’er?

As ever, all replies gratefully received.

See that Amazon are selling refurbished iphones with 12 month warranty, iphone 6 £130.00
  • Go for an SE available from CEX for around £150 with a 2 year warranty. This phone will be much more future proof than a 5s.

The SE is the same size as the 5S but is a far better purchase, it’s like a 6s internals in a 5s body and far more future proof.

I would also recommend an iPhone SE - as already mentioned, its exactly the same size as the 5s. I have used one for quite a while as its small (just about to swap it for an android handset but that's a different story)

iPhone SE (released 2016) it has a far newer processor which means that its likely to be supported on many more IOS releases than the 5s (released 2013) - although right now the supported OS list is largely the same, the 5S will start to get left behind.

    Hope this helps

1 - have you considered buying an up to date android phone instead?

2 - you may get a better response if you posted this in the Mobile Phone section

I'm also a small screen advocate. Little fingers you see!

I've had the iPhone SE for ages, I would recommend it.

I hope they release another version of it so it doesn't have issues like the 4S, I like it the headphone jack, the smaller screen and the sturdiness of it.

OP here, thanks so much for all the helpful replies;...greatly appreciated. :T

I think a used iPhone SE will be the one,...the right size and future proof’ish,...for a while at least.
There seems to be quite a few second-hand SE’s around atm,...and at very modest prices too.

    Cheers.

MM probably paid £20 to the original seller by saying it had been received with damage. ;)
