Taxi overcharged

Well until or if the OP comes back we'll never know the result.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Apparently the taxi driver could be faced with a charge of false imprisonment and is not recommended as a course of action by the London Taxi Driver's Association. Maybe the police enforce things different outside London but you can't even drive them to the nearest police station (if you can find one that is open). Not entirely sure what a cab driver is expected to do under these circumstances, to be honest with you.0

Its not so much you'd definitely be found guilty of false imprisonment - just that you may be convinced that they were going to make off without payment but be completely wrong, in which case you would be guilty of false imprisonment. Merely suspecting that someone is going to do a runner doesn't satisfy any of the conditions for lawful detention.
Anyway, any complaints about a taxi firm or minicab firm should be made to the licensing authority (local council except london I believe). You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0
