Accident without insurance

Worrabout the post immediately above yours?
My statement is correct. This is not a standard or automatic inclusion on most policies and would be a paid for add on that most would not opt for. The only policies that I am aware of that cover all drivers in all scenarios are business or fleet type policies but even these can have restrictions.0 -
So the moral of the story is to never drive a vehicle without first being 100% sure that you are insured, and that if there is an accident while you are driving you are covered for repairs / replacement.
Unless you have a policy like Mercdrivers above, which let's admit it most of us don't.
I don't drive other people's vehicles. I've seen and heard of too many times it gets messy when things go wrong.0 -
This sounds like something that would cost more to sort out in court than you'd ever get back in a claim.
How much are the repairs, OP?
Incidentally, every fully comp policy I have ever had has allowed me to drive someone else's car with permission for 3rd party cover only. My understanding has always been that if I borrow a friend's car and total it then I am on the hook for the entire replacement cost, unless their insurance does me a favour and pays out - still leaving me with my friend's excess and increased premiums to pay for.
Which is why I don't drive other people's cars.0 -
The trouble is the urban myth that fully comp policies include DOV is infectious and I would wager a large percentage of the public would go along with this view.0

Jsuk, have you told your insurance company that you now have 6 points for uninsured driving?
If not then you run the risk of your current policy being nullified!
Your renewal cost for your insurance is going to be expensive - expect a loading of around 230% over your last premium.0
