agreeing exchange completion day

Hello,
How is an exchange / completion date agreed?
Is it something the solicitors deal with in terms of correponding with each other regarding a date or is it a date coordinated via the estate agent?
I am asking as our solicitor asked me if I had spoken to the seller solicitor about possible dates.

Your solicitor asks you for your preferred completion dates.
The other solicitors in the chain do the same.
The solicitors then discuss among themselves.
Once a date has been agreed between all the parties, contracts can be exchanged and the date becomes legally binding on all.I am a mortgage broker. Solicitors in theory, but in every chain I've been in the EA has done some ringing round to coordinate the conversation and speed things up a bit.

For me it was a case of me telling them a date I wanted and them agreeing to it. I was in a very fortunate position of buying from local council who were selling property to pay care home fees. Suggest some dates that work for you.Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.0
