• Right, I have deleted as much as I can but I am still getting pop ups and the like. I seem to have a rather dubious short cut which keeps coming back even after it is deleted. I dont know how to get rid of it. When I click on the properties tab it says it is in System 32 and its adress is "C:\Program Files\Instant Access\Dialer\768832035". The Icon for it is "Crazy Girls" My boyfriend got a message on his Myspace last week with the same icon so obviously it has come from there but how the heck do I get rid of it? It is driving me crazy with all the disgusting pop-ups!

First of all everyone please note that it is NOT sufficient to "tick & fix" something with HijackThis. The offending files MUST also be removed.

"Crazy Girls" is related to the HJT entires mentioned below.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad in order to assist you when carrying out the following instructions.

Go to My Computer >Tools >Folder Options >View tab and select Show hidden files and folders. Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option. Also make sure there is no check/tick mark beside Hide file extensions for known file types. Click OK.

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Login on your usual account. Make sure to close any open browsers.

Go into HijackThis->Config->Misc. Tools->Open process manager. Select the following and click “Kill process” for it (IF it still exists) .....

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\lnaccess.exe

Next open HijackThis and click on 'Do a System Scan Only'. Check the following entries (If they still exist, make sure you do not miss any) ....

     O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [opxihpqrsa] c:\documents and settings\lynn\local settings\application data\opxihpqrsa.exe opxihpqrsa

    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Instant Access] C:\WINDOWS\system32\lnaccess.exe /res

    O16 - DPF: {DF1C8E21-4045-4D67-B528-335F1A4F0DE9} - http://es6-scripts.dlv4.com/binaries...1073_em_XP.cab

Please remember to close all other windows, including browsers then click Fix checked.

Delete the following Files indicated in BOLD
    IF they still exist .....

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\lnaccess.exe
    c:\documents and settings\lynn\local settings\application data\opxihpqrsa.exe

    Empty your recycle bin.

Re-hide protected files & folders by carrying out the reverse operation to that explained towards the top of this post.

Reboot your system in Normal Mode.

Post a fresh HJT log with an update on how the system is operating now. There may be more work to do.

Reboot your computer into safe mode again, as you did before.

Go to your Add/Remove Programs tool in the Control Panel and uninstall / remove the Instant Access program.

Now go to this file in BOLD and delete it IF it's still present ...

    C:\Program Files\Instant Access

    Empty your recycle bin.

    Reboot to normal mode.

Post a fresh HJT log and another update on how things are working now.

    PCH
  • When I go in to the Add/Remove programs and try to remove the Instant access program, it goes to Internet Explorer and then says "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage/webpage not found". I managed to delete the other part but not this!

So ... even when in safe mode you couldn't uninstall Instant Access from the Add/Remove Programs? Odd.

However, I see you managed to delete the actual folder itself and empty your recycle bin.

Please check your Add/Remove Program and see if Instant Access is still there. If so try to uninstall it again. Let us know what happens.

    ************

There is one entry in the log that may be a problem so I'd like you to check it for me please.

Please go to VirusTotal here ……..

    http://www.virustotal.com/en/indexf.html

    • In the middle of the page you'll find a "Browse" button.
    • virustotal2.jpg

Click the "Browse" button and browse to this file ……….

      C:\Program Files\mcafee.com\agent\McUpdate.exe

    • Click "Open".

    • Then click the "Send File" button at the bottom of the VirusTotal page.

    • This will scan the file. Please be patient.

    • Once scanned, copy and paste the results in your next reply.
It's probably clean but let me know anyway.

    ************

In your next reply please post ...

    1. the results of the VirusTotal scan ...

    2. a fresh HJT log ...

    3. an update on how the computer is operating now. Any better? Any strange icons or pop ups etc?

Remembering that we have been asked to resolve hunnybugs1's original malware problem I cannot see anything else in the log that would cause it so .....
    ormus wrote: »

.... what "junk" do you see that would have bearing on the problem?

Mine is less than one page long. Why would that make a difference to the problem in this case?

    Start from the first post.

In my first comment I mentioned it looked a complete mess and will need to be sorted bit by bit.

BZ's for taking the time to go into such depth, I couldn't be bothered will too much. Just get the nuts sorted out and clean up after.

The OP obviously has had many attempts at a fix before posting. There are loads of remnants of malware/spyware/av scanners etc so a good attempt was made.

But lets face it... if it were mine, over half of what remains could go, not because it is causing problems, it is just clutter.

That last entry about the jpg file is iffy to me! no idea what it is, but I would get rid of it.
