Hi.
I have had a Vax CB-W1 b cylinder bagless vacuum cleaner for about 5 years and has been working great for that time.
Yesterday i went to use it and it would not start.
I have checked the fuse, replaced the fuse with a known working fuse and tried different sockets in the home to rule out none working socket.
I took the cleaner apart and i did a circuit test of the plug prongs to the on/off button and that is ok so i think i can rule out a broken cable. I took out the motor housing and the motor turns ok and doesn't look black as it had burnt out.
I did a bit of googling and the vacuum has a thermal cut out onboard so i was thinking that that may have caused the cleaner to stop working but i have no idea what it looks like. I did recall that the vacuum did get hot underneath if i had been using it for a long time but it has never cut out in all the time i have had the cleaner.
Is there anything i can do to get the vacuum working again or is it time for a new vacuum?

From the VAX website you can download the owners manual for your machine, that will tell you where the overheat cutout reset switch is.0

You got 5 years out of a cheepo vax?0

that will tell you where the overheat cutout reset switch is.
They usually reset automatically when cooled down0 -
What about the carbon brushes on the motor?0

That's what is said in the manual.
The last time i used it was last Friday at it was ok. I went to use it yesterday and it would not go at all so the thermal cut out should of reset it's self after 72 hours.
I could not see a reset button or switch inside the machine but i will have a better look later today or in the next 2 days.0 -
motor is just tired/burnt out?0

It had 72 hours of rest so it should not be tired
I took it all apart last night and there is power from the live prong on the plug(using a circuit tester) all the way to the motor and when i switch the vacuum on/off button to the off position there is no connection so to me that means the plug, cable and switch is working. The motor looked ok and turns freely but i can not test it to see if it works as i don't know how to safely.
As for the thermal cut out i could not see any seperate wire which may have a cut out on it as i have seen some thermal cut out parts on google that were an issue on Henry vacuums.
The onl part i think maybe a thermal cut out was attatched to the PCB but this was a thin ali metal part about 1 inch by 2 inch that went to a chip on the PCB and my thinking was when that gets hot it cut the power. As for the PCB i could not see any blown parts on it.
I sent Vax an emailyesterday and they said let it cool down for 2 or 3 hours and that should reset itself but it was 72 hours since the last use so it is now time for a new vacuum.
I have 2, one upstairs and the Vax downstairs as it fits under the stairs and the other one is an upright and realy heavy so the Vax was safer to keep downstais and when needed it could do the stairs as it was light to carry.
Thanks for the advice so far.0
