reclaiming tax from a PPI claim

Options
Hi, I am wanting to fill in the online form for my dad who is retired, however straight away I have hit a brick wall asking for
Total pay from all employments, before tax is taken off (gross pay)
From P60/P45

My dad does not have either, he has been retired for over 10 years.
The only thing i can find from HMRC, is a PAYE coding notice which however is 6 years old.

Any idea where to go from here?

TIA

Are you filling in the R40 form? You can just put 0.0 in there.

  • The R40 form is for a specific tax year so if your dad had no employment income in that tax year then as -taff says you would just have to enter 0 for that.

If he has pension income you will need those details (for the tax year in question) along with any other information relevant to the form such as savings interest.

An R40 is really a simple form of tax return.

My dad received a letter today, mentioning that PPI information was not added to the online form, however I do not remember this being available on the form? am I better submitting it via paper form?

however I do not see where to put the information for the PPI, am I supposed to add a separate letter?

he had more than 1 claim in the same tax year, I guess the one form will be fine.

There's a question on the form about interest that has been taxed - this includes PPI interest.
I filled one in for OH and sent it online. However we've now had a letter saying they need to see proof of the amount of tax deducted so I have had to send that by post. There's no facility to add an attachment when sending the R40 online.
They will be getting thousands of these claims over the next few weeks/months so it would save time and postage if they asked you to send proof in the first instance.

The "PPI" refund itself is not taxable so doesn't go on the form. As topcat105 says you do need to include the interest paid with the PPI refund.
