Window Gasket question

Hi all,

i need to replace my useless gaskets on my windows (the small rubber strip on sealing the bit that opens to the bit that stays behind)

They are just shrivled up bits of rubber now and let the wind through so if figured better replace them before its to cold at night.

I have no idea where to start to know what type of gasket i need how u know what size etc ...anyone got any tips? shall i just take one out and go find a double glazing company?

Thanks in advance

There are 100s of different gaskets. Go back to whoever you bought the windows off and see of you can find out what the profile was. They almost certainly don;t fabricate with it any more, and the profile manufacturer probably doesn't extrude it any more (they have a 10 year lifespan at best) They might be able to point you in the direction of a gasket. If not, you are hawking around window companies looking for an OK fit.

You might want to do a google search for Plastech Multiseals in Coventry. The extrude compatible gaskets for fabricators and might have one similar to yours, but I would be surprised if they would sell you less than a bucket full.

  • Have you tried a uPVC window repair specialist? The one in our area calls himself window doctor. Have a look in your local yellow pages or ring a local company and see if they can recommend someone.
