Routers are they easy to connect

Is it easy to connect up a new router as this is something I have never done.

I know how to get into it on line and check things on it. but not up on all the tech stuff.

Yes -- it's dead easy. You just connect the router to your Internet connection (via ADSL, cable, or separate "modem"). And plug your Ethernet cables into the RJ-45 sockets on the router.

Then connect the power cable and turn it on.

don't I need to go into my IP address and get up router online to input details again. Like when you type admin and password and then it go into your router settings online. Sorry took ages to reply had trouble signing in to this site..

More information needed:
Are you on ADSL or Fibre?

Which ISP are you with?
Did you get the router sent from the ISP?

If so, there should have been a handbook/guide with it, that will tell you how to setup.

If you have bought your own router, what make/model?
There should be an online guide or manual for your own (bought) router: check the manufacturer's website.

In whichever case, the guide/manual will give you setup details.

If you buy internet service your ISP will send you a pre-configured router, all you need do is plug it in and use the password on the back.

If you want to set up a separate router for another room you can.

If you want to replace the ISP router it will depend on the ISP, Sky for example do not give you login, there is a site online that tells you how to grab credentials from Sky router but PITA.

It's been unnecessary to do that for ADSL ever since Sky bought Telefonica's UK broadband business and migrated O2's and Be's customers to Sky's network.

Yes you will need the username and password to authenticate your internet connection.
you can ask your provider for this, and then if it is adsl that will be all you need.

I have found with VDSL you also need to change the connection type to be PPPoE and VLAN ID 101 entered on the routers i have configured (mainly TP link & Netgear)
