Housing association house heating wont turn off!

So this morning I woke up to a boiling house!! I went downstairs and turned the heating off but an hour later I realised the radiators were still boiling hot, i turned the boiler off and the radiators are still boiling! Out of hours repairs say it's not an emergency and cant attend till Tuesday at the earliest and advised me to sleep with the windows open!! However i have a 7 year old son and I'm not happy to sleep with the windows open with him in the house. Staying with family is not an option as no one is local. If I were to stay in a cheap b&b (not a 5 star hotel!!!) Would I be entitled to my money back?

No, it's not an emergency and sleeping in heat won't hurt either of you. Even if it was an emergency hotel stays would be arranged and approved by the HA first.

Just switch the boiler off,or remove the fuse next to boiler.

As above, Simply turn the boiler off at its own control panel. Or turn off at any appropriate adjacent switch. Or turn of at the designated circuit breaker in fuse box.

If you've turned the boiler off the system will start to cool. In a few hours the radiators will be cold again.

No, you won't be able to claim for alternative accommodation for the place being "too hot". Even with the heating running it will probably be no warmer than a hot summer night.
  • As stated in the post, I have already switched the boiler off and the rads are not cooling down

Turn the radiator valves down, assuming they have TRVs.

Either you have turned the boiler off, and the radiators will gradually cool... or you have failed to turn it off, and the radiators may stay warm.

In any case, it's certainly no emergency, and nobody should expect layouts for accommodation under these circumstances.

They will. Think about it. How will the water in the rads stay hot without the boiler running? There is heat in the system but it will dissipate. If you're too hot now, open the windows and that will accelerate the radiators' cooling.

Either that or you haven't turned the boiler off. Or you have a boiler that heats rads whilst turned off, in which case, can I have it?
