Hi everyone
I have a problem with British Gas and I would like to know if anyone else has been in this situation.
I left British Gas last November and moved to NPower. I used to pay BG by direct debit . I had gas and electricity from them. I received a final bill for the electricity and paid that last December.
Today I have received a letter stating that I have an overdue gas bill with BG and that if I do not pay it asap legal action could be taken!
It's been a year since I left them, now I get a final bill???? Does this usually happen?
I have hunted high and low for my last BG bill but cannot find it and can no longer log into their site as I'm 'no longer a customer'
I have rung them and been told that I have to pay asap, I asked why it has taken sooo long and they replied that nPower have only just sent through the details (which I find hard to believe).
Any advice would be appretiated.
Thank you

According to Energywatch
Inaccurate billing can cause consumers to run up debts. For example, if you have a large demand for payment but have not received a bill for some time, contact your supplier. They should be able to arrange repayment of the debt over the same period in which it accrued, ie no bill for 12 months – 12 months to repay.

Have you been getting your bills from Npower ok? if the answer is yes - BGas have made up an excuse because if there was a problem with the reading, neither Supplier could bill you.
It's very probable that an agent has not passed a reading on to BGas to allow them to finalise it. It's not uncommon sadly.
However, they would have to send you a final bill for this. So, you would be aware of it so have you just not had one and now they are chasing you as a debt?
Sounds like you need a breakdown first to make sure it's correct.
You will be able to arrange a plan once you know it is correct.
In relation to the above post - thats normally the case if you are still a customer but not the same when you have left so you have to negotiate a bit.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0 -

yes, i recieed the same....from their debt collection agency!!! However, I haven't been with them for over a year and after asking several times, I am yet to recieve a bill!
they can only have 12 months to claim debts for energy accounts anyway, so write to them, infor them of that.If my typing is pants or I seem partcuarly blunt, please excuse me, it physically hurts to type. :wall: If I seem a bit random and don't make a lot of sense, it may have something to do with the voice recognition software that I'm using!0
