Thanks for all your help :) There have been some developments you might all be interested in!

The Buyer agreed to send it back to me for a refund, but has now sent me the following message:

'John do you have a phone number i can contact you on.

I went down to the post office sorting office & they said I have to print off a P58 Claim Form form WWW.ROYALMAIL.COM tel 08457740 740'

Well, I'm not going to give him my phone number! I'm going to send an email back saying, as has been advised, that Amazon's policy is to return the item to the seller, and then I will issue him with a refund.

I'm not sure how he expects to file a claim when he hasn't got the proof of postage! Maybe it's just the Post Office being silly, but I'm beginning to get very suspicious about this.

Also, how to I thank you all for your posts? I'm sure I saw a button once but I can't find it!

I just sent him the following message:

'Hi [his name], I'm afraid I don't wish to divulge my mobile number, but I will try my best to help you over email.

Amazon's policy is that you return the item to me and then I will issue you with a refund. Unfortunately, you will not be able to claim via a P58 form as you have not got proof of postage. When I receive the item from you I will go down the Post Office and claim via the P58 form myself, with the proof of postage that I received when I posted you your item. I hope this sorts things out. I'm sorry, this must be very frustrating for you. If you have any more problems do not hesitate to contact me again.'

Do you think that was the right message to send? :o

I suppose he will now demand that I send him the Proof of Postage

Do you think I should just give him the refund and avoid a neg? I'm very reluctant to do this to be honest.
  • Problem is if you refund him straight away and royal mail eventually come to deal with your damaged in transit request, the buyer may not bother to acknowledge the damaged item.

Once he gets his refund he may not be interested helping you out with getting compensation.

Do you think you are going to get compensation from PO? I doubt it.

But to have any chance he will need to send all packing back.

This one just sounds way too dodgy!!
  • If the buyer thinks that the Royal Mail are to blame for the damage he needs to claim from the Royal Mail - it isn't your fault nor your responsibility
Wrong he does not claim. If you ordered from tesco direct and it was damaged What would you think if they said hard shlt?

Hi all, it looks like everything has been sorted out now. The buyer emailed me again saying that he will post the item to me on Monday. I'm not sure I'll bother claiming for the damage, as the item didn't sell for very much, and it takes ages for the Post Office to process claims. I'm quite curious to see how the DVD is damaged!

Thanks for all your help again!

Let us know! I'm imaging the official Royal Mail screwdriver as we speak (maybe they've started issuing cocktails to the poor staff as a conciliatory measure!)
