Ive received a letter from HSBC stating I may be entitled to a refund of Debt Collection Charges if I held a store card, credit card or loan provided by HFC Bank. (I did).
However it wants me to provide evidence of these charges which will be before 2009 and I don't have anything or Reston's who the debt was passed to will provide as they haven’t got copies anymore. Any advice or help will be appreciated

What advice are you expecting? If you don't have any records left and neither do they then your complaint is going nowhere
Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Your last hope is to send a SAR, however, it sounds as if the records have been destroyed, but if you want to be sure, send one.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0

I got the letter a couple of months ago. Signed and returned the ID check form and on Friday I have received a further letter detailing a breakdown of charges owed together with a cheque.
I didn't have to prove anything because like a lot of other people I did not have any records.0 -

Paul Lewis of Money Box was talking about this subject on the BBC news last Saturday because the FCA decided HSBC’s debt collection charges were unfair back to 2003.
Typically this lender invites a claim for their wrongdoing and then expects the customer to provide the evidence0 -

Yes and I got my original letter in April, responded & have just got the reply.
I was letting people know that I still got a refund without having to provide any documentation to HSBC0 -

In your case, this was not required and that's great-but not at all helpful to the OP four months on from his query...0 -

I was also received the same letter which dictated I had to provide documentary evidence from my own records along with giving them permission to run an online ID check. So having provided no documentary evidence four months ago I'm sure the OP would find it useful to know that a refund may still be possible.
Apologies if this is not useful information.0 -
