Backdating IHT

I have been sorting probate for my Dad's estate, which is fairly straightforward apart from having some money in a trust, originally HMRC sent quite a large tax demand but after some correspondence and many phone calls they have reduced it to a much smaller sum which has now been paid. I have received a letter from HMRC saying "I have no more enquiries". My possibly rather stupid question is how likely is it that HMRC will sometime in the future change their mind and demand more money? Is there a time limit? This is the first time I have been executor for an estate that has IHT liability.
Also, a word of advice, if you are setting up a trust then please, please make sure you explain to the executors what it is and how it works to save them a LOT of work at a later date!
