Hi, sorry if this is the wrong forum but I wasn’t sure were to post.
I have a reclusive Uncle that has passed away. My contact with him was limited to a Christmas card once a year and that was how he liked it. Any further contact would be rejected.
Sadly he has passed away and I found out from heir hunters touting for business.
I need to find out if he left a will. The coroner has advised me to search the property. The police have sealed the property and don’t seem to know who has the responsibility to let me look for the will.
Is there anyone out there who can advise me on how to gain access or find out if there is a will via another method.
Many thanks

Are there any other relatives that you are aware of, or are you the closest in terms of blood relationship? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Ask the Coroner’s Officer to have a chat with the local Police. You should be able to sort this without too much formal process.0

Why have the police sealed the property? Did he die in suspicious circumstances?
Who owns the property? Uncle? Or did he rent his home? Who is the landlord? See

You could move forward on the assumption there is no will, and apply to be the Administrator of the Estate. If there is a will, the Executers (whoever they are) will likely come forward and contest your application!
If/when Probate is granted (ie someone named as Executer of the Will manages the Estate and applies for Probate), the will becomes public. You can apply for it here:

But that, of course, is no help right now.0 -
If you find a letter from any solicitor in the house, you could call them to ask if they are storing a will for your Uncle. If you give them his name, and your name, they will check and if they have his will they will tell you whether they need id from you to release it.The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.0

You could also do a will search at https://www.nationalwillregister.co.uk/aboutwillsearch.aspx
If the Will is registered it will show you where it is being stored. If you go for the combined search and the will isn’t registered it will also post a notice on its missing Wills page which is viewed by solicitors etc.0 -
