Well, my new house has 80 50 watt gu10's and I am wanting to replace them with low energy ones.
I have found megaman gu10 9w in BQ for £6 each but they are 2.5cm longer that all the other gu10s so would stick out, not ideal.
Or there is led gu10 1.2w(they say equal to 35w normal bulb) but is recommended for "object lighting" not main room, and they are £4.50 each.
So, any advice appreciated, and anywhere I could get them cheaper. And for the mathematicians is it worth me spending around £450 changing the bulbs.
Thanks

I'd just change the lights you use most often, no point in changing 80 bulbs if 60 of them are only on 5 minutes a dayThere are 10 types of people in the world; those who understand binary and those who don't...0

Good Afternoon, the Megaman low energy gu10 for £6.00 is a really good price they are normally about £8.00. For a start forget LED bulbs they are not yet at a stage of development to provide main room lighting. If they claim to give 35W then that will be about 30cm from the bulb. A site worth looking at is http://www.lowenergygu10.co.uk they have reviews and break downs on the different types of low energy gu10 available as well as quite good prices. They have a genuine 35w low energy gu10 that is 100% the same size.
Reference is it worth spending £450.00 then yes just used this online calculator as per link below and they will save you £4,800 over the life which is some saving !!!http://www.energybulbs.co.uk/Energy_Bulbs_Calculator.xls0 -
Thanks for the reply, using the calculator you provided I reckon it would take me about 4 years to pay for the bulbs via electricity savings, and as we intend to move house in 2 years, I wont be changing them.
Of course I could take the bulbs with me when I move, but I wouldn't.

It might be worth checking the actual fittings if you did want to change to the Megamans in some sockets, I've done something similar recently and whilst some had 'fixed' scokets to only allow the normal bulbs to fit flush, quite a few of my fittings had slack in teh connections that meant I could push the longer low energy bulbs up into teh recess without any trouble. Another alternative is something like Philips Energy Savers or Osram IRC's, they offer 50W equivalents which only use 35W or 35W equivalents that only use 20W, we've just replaced 6 x 50W in one room with 4 x 35w and 2 x 20W, I recokon I could have got away with 4 x 20W or maybe even all 6 depending on teh room use. That cost about £30 incuding delivery for the 8 bulbs (6 + 2 spares) from litebulbs.co.uk0

Thanks, I will check them out.0
