NewDay (Marbles, Fluid, Aqua) changed criteria?

For probably a couple of years whenever I used the CC eligibility checker Marbles, Fluid and Aqua showed up at the top of the list with 95% or pre-approved. I've never taken one out because the offers weren't that good (short balance transfer period, high standard rate) instead opting to try to improve my credit report and hold out for something better.

Today I checked and they've gone, and it just made me curious if they've changed their criteria or stopped taking on new customers, or maybe I'm just not their target customer anymore.

  • Gone as in not showing or gone as in you’re ranked with a 0% chance of getting one?

If you’re interested in taking one use the eligibility checker on their actual site.

Ignore the interest rate as you should be paying the balance back in full every month anyway

The sub prime world is so volatile, acceptance criteria are in a constant state of flux.

Apparently only 45% of credit card holders pay their cards in full and the average credit card debt is around £2800.

It's closer to 60%. Around 80% of total debt is cleared in full each month.

Interest payers have always been in the minority.

I'm not going to be doing that. I'm looking for balance transfer offers because I have £11,500 of debt across 4 cards. I'm not interested in taking out the cards in question because I think the ratio of benefit (short balance transfer period) to risk (high standard rate) is too high. I'm just intrigued as to why the sudden change, and thought it might indicate something that other people want to know about.

Incidentally, I recently took advantage of an offer with one of my existing card companies and transferred £4,500 onto a 5% interest rate for 3 years, so I'm going in the right direction. Fingers crossed, next stop low interest loan to clear the rest.
  • A loan is never a good step for debt consolidation. It’s a final and drastic step.

Lenders judge whether to give you a loan based on your affordability which is total debt + new loan debt NOT total debt = new loan debt as they have no guarantee you won't just waste the loan or run up the cards again. That is the reason you won't get a low interest loan, if they offer you a loan at all as you're seen as a huge risk.

I just went on MSE and I'm not sub prime by any stretch, my only debt is a BT card which is paid off monthly and I have 2 prime cards.

Looking at offers, Marbles and Aqua are both on the MSE credit club BT cards page, both 100% along with a bunch of others 95-90%. Perhaps look there and see what offers you can get

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Their criteria must have changed. All of a sudden, I don't qualify for those. I might be making "too much" now, or my credit file might be "too good". No idea. But the eligibility checker on their site told me I don't qualify either.
