I wouldn't be so sure.
At the moment we don't even know if the OP has served valid notice yet - ie in writing (letter, stamp) to the address given in the tenancy agreement for serving notices.
We also don't know how badly the LL wants the property back.
With the limited information that we've been given so far either party could potentially hold the upper hand.0 -
He hasn’t given us any notice. It was simply a verbal agreement that I would leave on 1st May.
What info would you like? Sorry if I’ve been a bit woolly. Not sure how all this works.
We agreed verbally I would move out on 1st May. There wasn’t any written agreement from both of us. Just an understanding that I would be gone by 1st May. My tenancy runs from 26th - 26th as per the old contract and I have continued to pay that until now. I’m unsure if I pay for another full months rent simply for 4 days. The LL states that I need to but still insists I’m out for the 1st of May. Is this the information needed? Again, apologies if it’s not.0 -
Look - saajan gave you a) b) or c).
And my link explains the options in greater detail.
So either
* you serve proper, written notice yourself to end the tenancy (which you do not seem to have done) or
* The LL serves a S21 Notice to end the tenancy (which he does not seem to have done) or
* you mutually discuss ending the tenenacy, agree a date, and agree rent payable, and then (to avoid misunderstandings) confirm it in writing. But this option relies on you reaching agreement. Neither of you can demand anything. Though failure to reach agreement means the tenancy will continue.........0 -
Okay I understand. Thank you for your help.0

Tell the LL in writing that if he insists you pay a full months rent you'll be staying put for the full month. That shoudl perhaps encourage him to see sense. INdeed it woudl be in his interest to let you stay an extra day or two them leave with no payment.
The power is all in your hands there's nothing legal he can do to get you out in time. I hope you have changed the locks to prevent anything illegal.0
