Best Blackberry to Deter!

Options
I noticed an intruder on CCTV trying to get over the wild looking blackberry bush in my nans garden, The thorny bush had cut them and i even found bits of clothing on the spikes.

What is the most dangerous variety to act as a deterrent, i notice most stores are mostly selling thorn-less versions but that is no use to me.:A

Does it have to be blackberry?
If not, how about a nice spiky pyracantha.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Ahh interesting, i will look that one up, the more spikes the better to protect my nan from these opportunists.

Blackthorn is another good one, especially if nan likes sloe gin
Holly can also be pretty vicious

Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?

    Hedgehog holly is the prickliest.

And how about a Berberis ?

Brambles. Just take a cutting from an established bush and put it in the ground. Probably be painful trying to control it though but you wont get people trying to get over it.

Might try some cutting and dip them in rooting powder to try as the shops are only selling thornless!

  • She used to have some barbed wire up until the local Council ordered her to take it down, they told her an intruder could get hurt trying to get into her garden so she must remove it, the blackberry bush has took on the job of the barbed wire until she is told to get rid of it.

Brambles are really easy to establish - I encourage them in certain parts of the garden, and the berries are delicious. You can also peg an existing runner to the ground and it'll root creating a new plant
