And

I have now worked out how to password protect a document.
However I still cannot work out how I remove the document from the "recent" list.0 -
Are you talking Word or Excel or similar? What version? I use Word 2013 and if you click on File to view the list of recent documents, you can right click when they appear on the one you want to remove and "remove from this list"0

Go on then, let us in on the secret ....
Add or remove a password to control access
To set a password on your Word, Excel or PowerPoint file click File > Info > Protect Document > Encrypt with Password. You'll be prompted to create a password, then to confirm it. After you've added a password to your file you'll want to be sure to save the file to make sure the password takes effect.0 -
I thought they meant the secret the OP was trying to hide.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
Use Veracrypt to create an encrypted folder, use a strong password. Save your work in the folder.
When finished run Bleachbit to delete temporary files and records of recently used files.
Both programs are freeware and an order of magnitude more secure than relying on Word or Excel password protection.0 -
I would 2nd that. You can then have all your files in the Veracrypt folder and just enter one password when you log on. You can also move your email and browser profile to the encrypted folder so that all information of that becomes impossible for anyone else to look at.Frozen_up_north wrote: »Use Veracrypt to create an encrypted folder, use a strong password.
