Any Firefox Experts Out There?

Hi all,
I have a laptop with Vista Home Basic, firefox 2.0.0.9 and a wifi set up. After about 5 minutes firefox refuses to load pages. If I close FF down and restart it all works again for about 5 minutes; very annoying. I'm pretty sure it's not my home network as it happens when connected to other wifi connections. I can also jump start it by opening an IE window which makes me think it might be a conflict issue. Anyone have any thoughts?

  • It's a funny thing firefox, many love it, many hate it, I'm in the hate it boat, until the latest version it used to always crash for me on Vista, I'm quite happy with explorer 7, have you tried opera? I can't see why it should stop, is it the latest version?

I'm so used to using FF it's second nature. I'm pretty sure it's the latest version, though I understand that there's a beta out there? I have tried opera and may well try it again.
Sadly I have a character defect in that if something doesn't work how it should, i want to know why!

Try the portable version from portableapps.com. I have been using it for ages on different vista machines and never had a problem.
Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????
  • I used to be like that, my 6 year old son could not play games on the website he wanted, it kept saying no flash player installed, it was installed, and showed up in the add ons list, just would not run, instead of doing what your doing and trying to find out why, I just installed firefox for him and said...there you go....I'm getting lazy in my middle age.

I know, I really ought to let go now and again! Still, I would like to find out what's going on............

Delete all the personal data from it, the cache, cookies etc and see if it makes a difference.

If not uninstall it, re-download the 2.0.0.9 package and reinstall it.
    Download from: http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/products/firefox/

It should be fine. Personally I'd always pick FF over IE, it's more secure, faster and with all the add-ons available the functionality can be extended and better controlled. A lot of people switched to get the tab browsing, but now that's available in IE, so there isn't such a difference.

Some like one, some like another, but I only use IE to test pages I develop, FF is my default.

There is a plugin for FF called IETab, allows you to switch to IE just for those 'difficult' pages but FF stays in control of the navigation.

Yep, got that. I don't think it's any site in particular, it appears to be more of a time thing.
Isofar, I've done that and tried it with absolutely no addons/extentions, still does it.

    I'm at a bit of a loss then :(

Have you tried the Portable Apps version?

If not, I guess Opera is the next alternative. It must be something weird with your Vista install, but probably very difficult to track down.

Have you tried Firefox support at: http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/support/

I use the portable apps version when using other (not my) computers, but would rather use my lap top as it is, not plugging in a flash drive every time I want to surf.
I'm looking through the support link, bottle of red at my side
