You can't usually wire two flexes into one spur outlet - the cable clamp won't take it.
You can't ever do it, as that is not how they are designed to be used.

Is it prohibited in BS1363 though?

But it will fix your immediate issue, no? What else are using the other empty socket for?

Sorry don't understand if its a single socket that's been put in for hob.

Where is the other empty socket?

Most just add a single surface mounted box and wire it into the cooker outlet and put it on the floor. Having the oven and hob on the same circuit is the done thing.

I am surprised though because it must be a surface mounted box so the electrician should have worked out the clearance before installing it, it's not as if they don't know about these clearances, or at least they should.

Usually the above skirting height socket is set up at a height to meet the ovens depth at back. Ovens are usually less depth at bottom.

I get mine fitted behind adjacent kitchen units with hole cut into back for access.

It's not a single socket though, the OP clearly stated it's a 2-gang socket.

Sorry yes they did missed that LOL Thanks:)

Just reread with glasses on LOL.

Op is the box flush or surface mounted?

If flush perhaps this? https://www.screwfix.com/p/appleby-galvanised-steel-dual-35mm/48234 fit single and flex outlet sockets.

If surface take off and fit single surface with a flex outlet type?

    Perhaps get electrician back now?

  • Thanks hasbeen. That would have worked fantastic but it's a double gang socket.

I don't have a copy of the Standard on me, but I would be fairly certain that it is explicitly prohibited by it.
