I have had some success with PPI claims myself but now want to help my parents who are in their 80's. They have had mortgages and car loans across the last 30+ years , but other than HSBC bank, they cannot recall who with and have no paperwork or numbers. Even the HSBC ones they have no paperwork for. Advice please. Is there anywhere that you can look up past accounts etc.
thanks

Only your parents can tell you who they had finance with. There is nowhere you can view such information.

Time to raid their attic (or give up).

If they still bank with HSBC then there will likely be records, but you are very unlikely to find 30 year-old stuff..

    Maybe some filtering will help.

Car dealers were not regulated until January 2005. So, any car loans before that date can be disregarded.

They are in their 80s. So, they haven't likely had a mortgage for over 20 years. Possibly a lot longer. So, that again, puts them pre-regulation. Most mortgages in the UK were/are put in place by brokers/advisers/estate agents. They too were not regulated until Jan 2005. So, you can eliminate them if that was the case.

if they did buy the mortgage via the lender and its before mid to late 80s, then they probably didnt have MPPI. Even if they did have MPPI, most MPPI complaints fail. You can still buy it today. Its loan and credit card PPI were most of the success is.

The only place they can find out info is their own records. There is no data in the public domain. People of their age tended to be brand loyal. So, asking HSBC if there is any is logical. However, you tried that and they have nothing.

Remember that most people in the UK have never had PPI. Those that tended to have it, usually had it multiple times. So, statistically, the odds are they never had it.

I think the OP was saying that his/her parents have no records, not the Bank.

Get your parents to write a Subject Access Request (SAR) letter to HSBC. That may turn up something...

I am also looking at PPI complaints for my parents, I knew a couple of banks but I used Resolver to send requests to as many as I could think of that they may have used.

Like others have said with it been so long ago you may just receive letters saying they cant find them on their system, I told my parents that if this happens just accept it and move onto the next one. Having said that dont be discouraged in send the PPI requests as both myself and parents have had complaints upheld from 25-30 years ago and neither of us had paperwork
