Anyone know off the top of their head if you qualify for the 8% rate if you have existing accounts with abbey... say.. a mortage + ISA?

Yes you do, BUT only for the first £1K. You have to use the switching service to get the 8% for the £2.5K. Hope you get your interest ;)

Get a fantastic 8% AER on balances up to £2500
When you open an account and transfer to us using the Account transfer service we will pay you 8% AER on balances up to £2,500 for the first 12 months whether you choose our Preferred in-credit Rate or Preferred Overdraft Rate option.

Customers wishing to open a bank account without switching their existing account to Abbey, you will receive 8% AER on balances up to £1000 for 12 months, as long as you credit at least £1,000 a month.

We finally got all the paper work through about 3 weeks after applying online.
Filled it all in sent of all ID necessary and waited and waited.
About a month later we got our ID stuff sent back with a thanks and they'll sort out the account and then.
    Nothing. Diddly squit, nada zilch.
Not heard a dicky bird for.

What on earth are Abbey doing? Do they not want business? I'm seriously considering another bank - but no idea which!
  • Aeuerby - I sympathise. Having gone into the branch today to close my account, being made to wait 15 minutes to see a young guy who'd been sat there doing nothing but bad mouthing the boss in the open plan banking hall, then taking a further hour to transfer money backwards and forwards between the accounts to be closed, speaking to two different telephone banking people whilst sat at this guy's desk and hearing 5 other customers complaining about simple things not being done and threatening to leave, I still have not managed to close my accounts. The Abbey cannot even get the basics right, so what hope does it have? Staff morale seems to be at rock bottom there too and I think this might explain a lot... Harumph. Sorry, that's got that off my chest, but judging from what I heard in the branch today, I am not alone! I'm going to FirstDirect - fingers crossed.
