Do I have a leg to stand on.

Samsung TV has become faulty after 2 years and 4 months.

Only came with a one year warranty.

Does currys have any obligations at all? Pretty gutted £850 tv faulty after a short time.

Many thanks for advice

I think it's not reasonable for an £850 TV to become faulty in less than 3 years assuming you haven't done anything to make it become faulty.

You may find that Currys and Samsung both deny any responsibility. Then you will need to decide if you will
    A) get an independent report on the fault
    B) take one of the above to court
    C) rely on a judge having the same opinion as you and me, that a pricey TV should last longer than it has

This all costs money of course.

I can't imagine Samsung would accept any responsibility other than what is specified in the warranty for the period of that warranty (assuming it was a Samsung warranty), because they don't have any. Currys on the other hand may have, but it is quite likely that the OP will need to take the steps you outline.

For future reference....... Many retailers offer 5 year warranties on TV’s. Wouldn’t it have been better to have checked this BEFORE deciding which company to purchase from?

    Just sayin’

BTW you titled this thread “do I have a leg to stand on” I can help you with that..... do find yourself permanently on the floor or do you keep falling to one side? If you’ve replied yes to any of the above statements then I can confidently say “NO, you don’t have a leg to stand on” :)

Contact Samsung and ask nicely. It could be a known fault, so you have nothing to lose.
Currys have no contractual obligations at all, only your statutory rights under CRA 2015, which will be tricky and expensive to claim under after 2.5 years..
As above, next time buy from JL or RS and get a five or six year warranty.

Which makes them contractual obligations. ;)

Currys can legally require the OP to commission an engineer report which finds (and states, on the balance of probabilities) that the fault was inherent, before they become liable to provide a remedy under the CRA. (The reasonable cost of the report would be recoverable from Currys, provided that it found an inherent fault).

Whether this is worth the time and effort for the OP only they can decide - as you said, contacting Samsung might be the easier wau forward.
