Amazon parcel I didn't order

I recently received a package from Amazon that I did not order, I have also been charged for this order too. When I checked my amazon account it does not show in recent orders, the last purchase was in 2017. When I checked email I found I had 2 emails regarding despatch and delivery dates for this parcel but no order confirmation. Both were in German and also arrived same day as parcel so I had no idea about it until it arrived. I contacted amazon and after 45 minutes of trying to explain I didn't place the order & had no order number to 3 separate departments they said they would pass it on to amazon germany since the bank statement shows it was paid to amazon.de. Out of curiosity I tried logging on to amazon.de with my details, which, surprisingly, worked and found order details for this package. As far as I can tell it is a new item and not from a private seller. Would It be better to just return item or wait for amazon to sort it?

Certainly, they won't refund until it's returned and received.
Odd that the item has been sent to your home address if, as you say, you didn't order it since that rather defeats the object if someone is trying to steal from you. Have you enabled "one-click ordering"? That could explain how you have inadvertently ordered.
If your account has indeed been somehow compromised by a third party , it might also be wise to change your account password.0 -
I hadnt used or logged into the account since 2017, First thing I did was change password and everything else regarding log in. As I said the order doesn't show on my amazon.co.UK account but it is on amazon.de which I never created an account on.0

Certainly, you can't order from Amazon Germany using an Amazon UK account.
For reference, you can log onto any amazon using your amazon log on details.
So yes you can order from amazon.de using your amazon.co.uk account. Or amazon.com, or amazon.es etc.
There is no such thing as an amazon uk account. You have an amazon account. Or course not all products ship to the uk when you do log in.
Sometimes it is cheaper to use a "different" amazon as they set their own prices.0 -

Yes the order details are on amazon.de only and NOT on amazon.co.uk, amazon .com, or amazon.fr.
So if i could buy from any amazon.anywhere, then surely it would still show in recent orders on the account that i assumed was the only one?0 -

Nothing else I've said is incorrect, though. The OP will have to get a return authorisation from Amazon and should ensure all necessary steps to ensure his account is secure in future.0 -

Looks like someone has logged into your account on Amazon.de and ordered something. Anyone else in your household know your details?0 -

Sorry but in my experience they most certainly do issue a refund on a tracked item, they have organised, once in the carrier's system and before Amazon receive the return.0
