Looking online it seems to suggest this may be a scam but not sure if that is the case.
I use my laptop for very basic things such as email, typing work documents, etc. No music, downloads, !!!!!! for anything like this.
I was checking some benefit bank holiday payment dates for my cousin and clicked on a site to look and got this threat detected pop up which was saying things like -
"Pornographic risk"
"Financial information leaked"
"If you close this we will report your IP address to authorities"
It said I needed to contact a number that was on the screen to resolve it and was asking me to input a username and password.
Is this a scam?
Ive done a virus scan etc and that was clear.

Yes. Delete, ignore, forget. Until the next scam appears!I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

I'm thinking ill just start using a different browser, I never used Edge before and thought id try with the new laptop but its full of trouble by the looks of it.0

You could try right click on the Edge icon and select New inPrivate Window and do everything there.
Also start Edge, click on the 3 dots top left, select Settings, then Advanced then clear history and tell it to clear everything by selecting all options including form data and passwords and, when it's done, select don't offer to save passwords and such.0 -
That was a scam, no need to worry as long as did nothing with it, no information provided. Edge has many things to iron out though so if you feel unsafe using it there are other browsers that you can use.0

If you want to see less scams, turn off javascript in the browser then turn it on only for the sites you use regularly or others when needed. A bit of hassle initially as you do the adding for your main sites.
Ad blockers also help because ads are how some scams get distributed.
This has been my normal browsing approach for a few years.0
