You will always get a refund back in the same way as you paid, this is at the very least a fraud prevention tool to stop people buying on stolen cards then returning for cash

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Given that Debenhams have gone into Administration today I'd be careful about using them.

The Debenhams credit card is issued and operated by NewDay.

What's your concern? The recent news stories about Debenhams?

The credit card with Debenhams branding on it is issued and operated operated by a third party: NewDay. They operate several other credit card brands.

    MSE says:
And it has also said there will be no changes to the Debenhams rewards club and personal finance products, including its credit card, insurance and travel money services.

You’ll get a refund if you follow the merchants return policy. It’s what decides IF you get a refund, not just sending things back.

And if you do then yeah it’s 99.9% back to the original source.

The card is provided by NewDay who are not in administration.
It is a MasterCard which is Debenhams branded but that’s it.

Just to be clear - did you purchase the clothes from Debenhams?

If so, the administrators aren't legally required to honour refunds, but it sounds like they are doing so anyway:
Debenhams says all orders are being honoured, and that customers can carry on using gift cards and returning items as usual.

(If they weren't honouring refunds, and the items of clothing cost over £100 each, you might be able to make a section 75 claim against the credit card company. But it sounds like you shouldn't need to.)
