mac help again !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi, I'm after some more advice for my sons mac. He wants for xmas an external hard drive and external dvd re-writer to convert videos to dvd.
Obviously must be mac compatible. What size hard drive do I need to buy, it's for storing pics and videos, will 500 gb be enough as below;

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000EXZB0M/pricerunner-21/ref=nosim

Thanks for any advice, I know you won't let me down.

    500Gb will be fine, it's a very good size at the moment.

    I have one of those WD MyBooks on a Mac and a PC, it's a bargain price I paid hundreds for it a few years ago! It's fast too.

    What Mac is it for?

    Similarly DVD writers, most external ones will be compatible with a Mac, but there are good models from LaCie, Iomega, Freecom and many other brands, try http://www.macwarehouse.co.uk/ or https://www.jigsaw24.com

    That'll be fine, depends how old/new - but all have USB, and most also have firewire, which is much faster connection for an external drive.

    Thanks it's less than a year old. He mainly wants it for his studies, storing digital movies etc. to edit and save.

    Then it'll be perfect. Go for ones with firewire as they are faster.

    Yes because it's got both USB 2 and Firewire - definitely worth it IMO.
