"Microsoft Account Problem"

This problem relates to a Toshiba laptop running Windows 10, which is up to date. I don't use Outlook or any other Microsoft products on it, and there is nothing which synchronises with it apart from an iPod occasionally.

It's driving me nuts telling me that "We need to fix your Microsoft account (your password has probably been changed" seemingly every day. In invites me to fix it in the "Shared experiences" settings, so I go there, click on the "fix now", and a box comes up with "Add your Microsoft Account. We will need to verify the password for your Microsoft account". It shows an obsolete email address in the box, so I delete that and enter my current email address, followed when prompted by my password, It then says "Ooops -something went wrong. This service isn't available at the moment. Please try again later" - and when I do, it's back to square one.

I've tried Googling this but the answers go over my head, so can some kind soul please help me out? I'm not good with computers once they start acting up, but I'm great at following instructions :)

The post by the user "ouroboros72" on this thread suggests that you might be able to resolve the problem by going into Settings > Accounts > Email & accounts, to display the list of accounts used by your laptop, clicking on the account relating to the obsolete email address, clicking on the Manage button to display an Account settings window and then clicking on the Remove this account from this device. link in this window.

    Perhaps!
  • Well so far so good! That seems to have done the trick: if it hasn't I'll come back to this thread tomorrow, so meanwhile, thank you!
  • I seem to have spoken too soon :(

Despite deleting the relevant account as suggested, it's still doing the same thing - and still coming up with that obsolete email address despite my having deleted it!

    A pox on Microsoft ...
