I am 22 and consider myself a millennial!
Me and my (now) Husband bought a 3 bed semi in the North East of England 2 years ago with a 10% deposit, no help to buy, no help from the bank of mum and dad, just a good 8 months of discipline and saving from our full time jobs. 22 now and hoping to have it fully paid off in the next 16 years. Might want to upsize if we have more than one child, none at the moment so all is good where we are.Mortgage left: £82,256.83
Savings: £5,000/£5,400
OP Total 2019: £1,900
OP Total 2020: £2,400
OP Target 2021: £2,400/£0
Emergency fund: £5,000/£3,556.60
Christmas pot: £360/£300 -
I'm 33, with a roughly 15% deposit saved between me and my partner, mostly in help to buy ISAs. I'm currently renting, he lives at home. My tenancy runs out next March (fixed term, not an AST) so we hope to have bought by then. Looking at buying a 3 bed semi and no plans for kids, so we should have plenty of space.0

Just turned 29 and still living at home to maximise savings. Still a few years off being able to afford my own property. Got a healthy deposit, it's just the mortgage amount that is scuppering me at the moment being on my own.0

I am 33 my wife is 31, we bought our first place in the south east 8 years ago.
No help to buy, no help form either sets of parents was very careful with money.
We recently moved in to our 3rd property after renovating and moving from the previous 2. It can be done you've just got to be savy and put the work in.0 -
26 and I own a 2 bedroom flat (165k) in the South East. I have no reason to upsize for the forseeable future, not until I settle down and start a family (and even then, the flat will do for a couple of years into having a kid)0

Very well done at 26 for owning one in South East0

Hi,
I’m 33 my partner is 25, we was living at home until November last year. We’re currently renting a small three bed semi in the north west as partner wasn’t in full time permanent work.
We’re now one week away from completing on our dream house valued at £345,000 we didn’t think we ever get the house we are purchasing. In a lucky position to sell some shares to get a 15% deposit.
I would echo other comments about deed of trust if you are putting unequal amounts toward the deposit. It’s absolutely horrible to talk about but well worth getting squared away.0 -
If you'd asked me when I was those ages:
26-29 still with parents
29-31 in a caravan
31-36 in a SO studio flat on a council estate 10 miles out of town
37 bought myself out of negative equity by writing out a cheque, moved, had no job, started all over again.
Life isn't one straight line for many.
Always single, still single.0 -
I am 34 now and we have recently moved into our second owned home, a 3 bed detached which we love.
Prior to that we were living in a 2 bed ex council semi which we bought 12 years previously for £85k. We had no intention of staying there so long it was just supposed to be that first step onto the ladder. We didn't really like the area but we had to start somewhere.
We have no intention of moving from our new home for a very long time, if at all. It suits us perfectly and its modest size means that it should be cheap to run and maintain.0
