O/S Daily Tuesday 9th April 2019

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one, those who are poorly and those looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Light and dry underfoot, but cloudy and mild, after yesterday's murky start the sun shone and it was a lovely day - didn't have a wash load ready to peg out on the line though, I have one today - but it doesn't look like being such a good day. I'll peg the washing out shortly.

DH up and getting ready for work as is DS1, I'm showered and dressed, now enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge. DS2 ok and settled.

Dinner last night was a tasty chicken in sauce with savoury rice and braised mushrooms. I remembered to get the pork steaks out to defrost, so we'll be having that with mash, veg and gravy.

Yesterday work was dead for a while first thing, then was manic from lunchtime into the afternoon, not sure what today will bring. It's my early finish day so will be nice to get home a bit earlier, although I'll have pack ups etc and the dinner to organise, I'm endeavouring to plan the dinner's with thought to the time available etc after work/work finish times.

Keep safe and well x

  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Lovely start here and forecast to remain so all day. The birdies are out in force this morning, fighting for a spot on the bird table.

My visit to the dentist yesterday was quite painless and he did the necessary filling whilst I was there. Sadly paying for my treatment wasn't quite so painless! As the Dentist is on the way to Ilkley I thought I would carry on to the M & S food hall there afterwards. Not very MSE but I do love their fish and decided to treat myself. A piece was enjoyed with hm wedges for my tea.

Being Tuesday it's the morning I meet my oldest friend for coffees and then lunch afterwards. We have almost worked our way through the menu now and need to decide if we are going to try somewhere else or go back to the top of the menu and start again!

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need or want of them and MRS SD thanks for the possible explanation for the absence of our friends MIA. Thinking of HOLLY and POPPY. Take care all xx

    Morning all

Not so nice here today and its meant to rain later on, its a shame because the events are on at work this week and they are all outside, tomorrow is meant to be better though.

I had very strange scary dreams last night which made me wake up and it took me ages to get back off after so I am tired this morning and struggled to get out of bed.

Need to look for something for dinner tonight but there is some truffle pasta in the fridge so I might go that with garlic bread and salad.

Must have a tidy round tonight and put some washing away etc.

Right best get on have good days all xx

Made the stew, think there's something wrong with me because I can't taste it, OH said it tasted like normal, but to me, it's like a really flat version of a stew, and I put everything I normally put in, in. A mystery to solve...It'll still get eaten though, with herby dumplings, because I can diet Thursday :)
Not a lot planned today, need to get petrol, phone a prescription through [ because i always forget it takes about week] and get bed made up in back bedroom for OHs friend who is coming to stay the weekend.
Some kind of spade work is also destined to happen. I want to sharpen up the edges of the grass overflowing from the front onto the pavement and neaten it all up [ it's a piece of grass in betweent me and the neighbour on the pavement outside.
Am definitiely going to the GC today - totally forgot on the way home yesterday, just drove straight past the turn off on the roundabout, didn't realise till the next roundabout down, then couldn't be bothered to turn back.

redruby, truffle pasta? oh nom nom...I'm supposed to be cutting down!! You're giving me ideas.. Mrs SD, possibly, yes, could be...the lack of emojiis must be very hard for you...you decluttered your posts! :) how are you today AOD? TA, quick recovery from the dentists!! enjoy your day out. Gers, enjoy groundhog day..hope the alram was installed..cameot, well done leek recycling, I did a bit here, but only in the stew... how are you today nanny? OL, I hope your boot remains harris free...glad mr gintot is highly on the mend! JackiO, enjoy your holiday, hope the cold goes! SO, they might have been doing work on the lines or something...I missed you :)

    Morning :)

Bit chilly here too but the sky looks hopeful so the washing is going out whatever.

Got my new phone yesterday then took ages getting it all the way I want it. Getting the sim in was so fiddly. Anyway its all setup as I like it (basically the same as my old phone :o)

Mum day today... cant wait...I watched Corrie and Emmerdale and have much to discuss on Carla and Kane...numerous times if need be ;)

Gastropub sausage and mash was good last night ...thanks taff for the reframe on that one although not sure beans would be OK unless they were the green variety which I cant stand.

New one for the catch up ..Fleabag on BBC check it out its very funny and dark humour

Hope y'all have a lovely day

    Good morning everyone,

I left the house at 5.30am yesterday and didn't return till 10pm - straight to bed. Gym in the morning, followed by work (stayed late) then went back to the gym for a little bit then had yoga for 1hr 45m. Not long after my head hit the pillow and I was out.

When the alarm went off at 5 this morning, my body was screaming 'NO!!!'. Not in the usual way, 'cause bed is cosy and warm, but in such a way where it was obvious I needed the rest. I could have continued to sleep on but work was beckoning.

I supposidely have a boxing class with my ex-colleague (the lad who was sacked recently) but given his unreliability, I've brought my gym stuff so I can go there after work if needed. Given how hectic my Mondays are, I've decided to fast from Monday lunch - Tuesday lunch, so I've not eaten anything since 12.30 yesterday and only had fluids (90% water, 10% coffee). Not hungry or anything yet and I'll actually try and hold off having lunch till as late as possible.

The 3rd date is booked for this Saturday. We're going to go for dinner then some drinks in Liverpool. I thought it was unfair to ask her to come out my neck of the woods, especially with this underlying feeling of uncertainty that I have about it all. I thought a civilised meal will give me a chance to get to know her better and from there, I can make a judgement call on how I feel. I'd hate for her to feel messed about should it not work out.

Yesterday was NSD #4. My budget is all up to date and looking relatively healthy, too.

    Taff - Seasoning, perhaps?

    Morning All

Looks like another nice day here, yesterday was glorious. I spent a good few hours at the allotment - planted 160 onions, my back is complaining this morning!

A word of warning - I bought some of the Aldi no added sugar chocolate and had a couple of squares after dinner - big mistake, the sweeteners they use has a laxative effect, thank goodness I didn't eat any more! Still have a grumbly tummy this morning but I'm sure it will do me good not to eat for a while.

The washing was dry in no time yesterday so I have my big winter coat in the WM at the moment and that should dry well outside, I'll look for other things to wash to make the most of the weather.

Enjoy your Tuesday, take care. XX

OL, a nurse at one of the lymphoma workshops we went to told us that everyone in Britain should take vit D during the winter.

Steve is on the phone to Chris who is on his drive to Bridgend. He's now able to work from home on Mondays which is a big boon for him and Crystal.

I gave the shower room a good clean out yesterday, it wasn't too bad cause I had been cleaning the essentials, I just went all out on it yesterday. I want to carry on doing a room at a time for the next week and a bit - a mini-spring clean if you like.

Hugs for all the poorlies, especially Poppy and Holly.

    Morning all
It's horrible outside today, wet and windy. It feels like winter is back . I didn't have a good night...... still awake at 4am as my mind was churning like a merry-go-round.
Well the delivery went astray yesterday as we had a phone call mid delivery time to say that the van had broken down :(. So Mr Fix It's chair is now coming on Wednesday afternoon, fingers crossed. They would have brought it this afternoon but we have to go to Dads as the roofer is coming. Mr Fix It wants to be there as Dad will probably forget what the roofer says or he won't be able to hear properly. So I expect that's me on the teas and coffee then :rotfl:.
You know those flowers I bought for DD ? Well they look lovely on my dining table......... I forgot to give them to her :doh:Oh well the thought was there......... and then it was gone ! :o
If I can summon up some energy from somewhere a general pottering is on the cards for today. However I have already stripped the bed, but I will hold off till tomorrow to wash the bedding, as it's supposed to be a better day of sunny spells and a high of 11 degrees. I shall remake the bed when I come back from Dads as I want it to air a bit first.
Tea tonight will be sweet and sour pork and either rice or chips.

taff thanks I will be fine, but I'm keeping the dairy food to a minimum for a while. Perhaps your meds have something to do with the tastelessness ?
Speky enjoy your date night on Saturday.
TA I read in the local rag last night that our nearest M&S is closing on 4th May, that will be a big blow for the town which is always busy. Our nearest will be in Cardiff now...... over 30 miles away and I won't be going all that way to shop there ( plus the parking charges are astronomical . ) Enjoy your day out with your friends.
Nelski hope Mum day goes ok.
SilverOldie I hope your internet has settled down.
OrganzaLace sorry about Georges vit D deficiency. Perhaps you can hide the pills in his food :rotfl:.
Gers I hope your DM is getting better every day.
MrsSD :hello:nice to "see" you on here too.

Mr Fix It has gone to his shed to try to fix the old headphones that DGS left, so now I suppose I'd better move off my behind and do something too. The DW has finished and needs emptying and the sweet and sour sauce unfortunately won't make itself :rotfl:

Thinking of all the poorly people and anyone going through treatment or just struggling with daily life. Big hugs to those who are working today too.

    Take care all.
    nan xx

OL I use my slow cooker on babysittnd days. Such a godsend. Hugs to Holly and Poppy. Gets I seem to remember you are getting carers help from today. Hope it goes well.

John and I were thinking about a little break aeay after Easter when it will be six weeks after his op so past the 'do nothing ' phase'. It has to be reachable by trsin and taxi because he can't drive for a bit
We sre considering Weymouth. Staying in a hotel will be a break for me and the sea air will do us good.

Well hugs to all and have a good day.
