So, just had texts from Very and MBNA about missed payments... They should have received my holding letters yesterday and I know that the wheels of business turn slowly so I'm not too worried that these are anything other than automatic messages.
This is really happening... I'm finally starting to get my DMP started and get this sorted!0 -
Just wanted to pop in and say well done, I think you are doing an amazing job!!
It's hard when you are on your own, I'm in a similar...ish situation, husband walked out left me with over £40,000 debt!! DD starting secondary in September and the new uniform is so expensive.
But the positives are that on those days I feel a bit down I look back at what I've come through and survived up to this point, I allow myself to feel sad instead of being annoyed at myself for feeling down therefore adding more pressure!
I'm on my DMP journey and will be for many years to come!
It's a massive step just admitting that you need help but at least you have done something about it.
I will be cheering you on from the sidelines!LBM Debt at: £47454:eek:Current total 26th Oct 2020 £ 25,808.040 -
Thanks treadingwater... while I don't wish the situation on anyone, it's nice to know there's other people out there going through the same thing. Everyone on here seem so supportive x0

Just spent a few mins looking into changing my energy providers to save a few £s... my car insurance is due for renewal soon too so I'm shopping around.
Every little bit helps right?0 -
Hello Eugh!
Congratulations on getting started. There are only two wags to a dog's tail and you are definitely on the way up now, thankfully!
The good folks on here are wonderfully supportive and incredibly well informed on all things financial. You really couldn't have arrived in a better place.
Good luck - I will be another one cheering you on :j"A thousand candles can be lit from a single candle without shortening the life of that candle."

Just when you think things are going well life throws another curve ball!
By boy twin appears to have broken the screen on my lap top which is going to cost a fortune to fix (I need it for work and payroll reasons). I'm going to see if my house contents insurance covers 'act of child' and if it does work out if it's worth making a claim.... I was going to ring today but I've also now lo st my phone!! I know it's in the house somewhere but I just can't find it! Argh! This is not a great day....
Plus I had a bit of an issue at work this week which is making me reconsider the job I'm doing, there's another route I could take to a career but I would need to understate a uni course for a year (seconded) but I need to do some number crunching to see if the idea is viable with child care etc...
Nothing is ever simple right? But I just need to plod on and whisper to myself 'this too shall pass'0 -

Nothing much to report over the weekend... I'm still waiting for responses from my holding letters (only sent them last week so not expecting miricles!) so maybe I'll get some this week. I feel a bit in limbo at the min....
It's the beginning of my eldest's Easter holidays tomorrow so I need to keep costs under control while he's off. We're going to a walk over Cardiff barrage tomorrow with an ice cream at the end - which is a nice happy medium cost wise. Who doesn't love an ice cream right? I feel like tomorrow is the real beginning of my dmp since it'll be my first wages since making these choices.
Following on my last post about thinking of making a career change I've decided to take the plunge and apply for the year long uni course I need to take to do it. Luckily if I get on the course I still get paid via secondement, but my childcare bill will increase. But I can't put my life on hold because of my debt - and if I get on the course my earnings will considerably increase once I'm qualified. But applying is just the first step... fingers crossed things are on the up x0 -
Also forgot to add - I was going through some old stuff under the bed that my husband deserted when he left and found a few autographed item of bands/actors and some limited edition vinyls.... eBay here we come! Another couple of pounds added to be made to pay off some of the debt :rotfl:0

I’d suggest putting any eBay pennies into an emergency fund for things like laptop repairs. It’ll really help with peace of mind knowing there’s a bit of a bufferMortgage at 01.01.14 £119,481.83:eek: today £0 Emergency fund £5.5/5.5k & £200/200 cash.:jWeight 24/02/19 14st 7lb now 12st determined to stop defining myself by my mistakes.
