The way I close current accounts is by switching them, with a switch offer where I am still eligible for it (which is next to nowhere now). That's obviously not zero effort but it usually takes a minute or two to fill in the online switch request, and then another couple of minutes to update my tracking software and any paperwork I might have for the account. Nonetheless, I still have over two dozen of them left (clearly not all of them with TSB!), each of them having one good reason or other to existIt is actually more work to close the account- with my standing orders it requires precisely zero effort to keep using it, to close it I’d have to actually do something.
