Hi, been doing some reading/reasearch on this. Seems like a lot of the providers just piggyback onto the big boys network?
Am i right in thinking only Voda, EE, Three and O2 have their own lines? And the rest just provide a service but use the above guys anyway.
i have tried out lebara mobile in my house (which is where i will be using the sim/data the mainly) and the speeds are shocking: 0.87 download, 0.57 upload
Need something alot faster than that, so who should i go with?
Ideally i need about 3GB data a month for as low a cost as possible
Thanks

Lebara use vodafone. I assume bad signal with vodafone signal at your house?
If you want three, try smarty.
If you want O2, alternative would be tesco or giffgaff.
If you want EE, alternative would be ASDA0 -
Speed of connection is a matter of how many people are using the same cell at the same time. So the speed is going to go up and down no matter which network you're with.
Most of the networks offer free payg sims from their sites, just try a few and see what you get, but try at different times of the day to get a true picture.0 -
A SIM with giffgaff that offers 3GB data would be the £10 Goody Bag. You could get a SIM from them, buy a £10 GB and try it for a month. If you didn't like it, ditch the SIM and forget about the account. If you did like it, get a PAC from your current provider and transfer your phone number (if that's important for you - if not then just keep the number giffgaff give you).0

Thanks, i didnt know Lebara use Voda. I just took out a voda contract phone last month and checked the speed on both, side by side. The voda contract is much faster!
How sneaky?!0 -

Problem is you have to top up the sim before you can find out the speed. This is how i ended up trying Lebara out, so i don't want to waste another £10 trying something rubbish and being stuck with it for a month again0 -

Thanks, i might look into GiffGaff then or maybe because of the voda thing i mentioned above i would just be better to go direct with 02 pay as you go?0 -

The above is a list of who piggybacks on who.
The first thing you need to determine is which of the 4 carriers give you the best signal in your usual haunts. Find out what your friends and family use and ask to check the signal.
Do you have WiFi at home? If so then download speed there is not an issue as long as you can make and receive calls.
MVNO's generally won't give as fast a download speed as the main carriers, EE for instance have their own super fast 4G speeds which they don't allow anyone else to use.
Don't forget that your phone perhaps has to be unlocked.0 -

I think three currently have an offer of sims with completely free 200Mb per month, so that would let you try it out without having to spend any money. (Mine arrived the other day, but I haven't tried it out yet.)
