Why not just get it repaired? That will be the cheapest option.

I don't think a ripped cover (and possibly deployed air bag) is being pedantic.

"IF" the airbag has been deployed and you hope to mask that by replacing the cover one can only assume that you will have disabled the airbag lights too. Is this the behaviour of an honest individual?

Hold on with the lynch mob... We don't know the airbag has been deployed. The cover may just be cosmetically split through simple mishandling of the steering wheel (although I really can't quite picture how).

If the bag has deployed, and the repair to the rest of the impact damage has been shonky enough not to bother including a replacement, then I'd have thought the split cover was the least of the issues likely at return...

The airbag hasn't been deployed, no light etc. I've hit the horn too hard and it's made a small split. Got gradually bigger over time. If the airbag had deployed, it would be split open completely and I'd know about it. It's not a case of wanting to mask a dud. I've seen covers on eBay now and again and it's cheaper than buying a new airbag, especially since mine doesn't need replacing. However, I've not seen any tutorials on how to get the airbag out of the cover to replace it. So I'll have to bite the bullet and just buy a cover that comes with the airbag already embedded. Cost more but at least I know it's properly seated in the cover and working correctly.

As Adrian says, any impact that sets off an airbag, the cover of the steering wheel would be the least of my worries aha
