Every day or so I cannot access Catchup because of no wifi connection. I have an ethernet cable as well and have tried both together as opposed to just wifi. Same result ! Distance between router and tv 20 feet and brick wall. Regardless of wifi, should it keep connection with just the ethernet cable.
Infuriating ! Disconnect router, then sky, reconnect....blah blah.. it works again... for a while

Are you sure the sky box is actually using the ethernet cable? Does it show a status somewhere which confirms 'wired' ?
Have you tried connecting the cable to a laptop (with wifi disabled) to confirm it's working? Run a speed test - should show an improvement over wifi.
Most boxes (and computers) disable / ignore wifi if there is a wired connection as it is infinitely better.

    thanks
obviously I don't know what I'm doing ! The ethernet cable went from the router to the smart tv (duh). But.... what has sky tv got to do with the internet anyway ?? It comes via the dish/cable, direct to the sky box...
Have now connected ethernet cable to the sky box (why - re prev sentence and... no difference. What am I missing ?

Edit - reset again. Now got Ondemand. Says it/Sky IS connected to Router... but tomorrow, same again, I bet. Still don't get it. Sky is Sky. B/band is interenet. How are the two connected ????

No laptop, no way of checking re 'wired' . I have one on those litte mini boxed that also plugs into sky (what is this for ?/Ondemand wont work without it/its lights on )comes after reset)

Sky gets live TV from a satellite BUT the catch up is from the internet. So you need to plug the ethernet cable into your Sky box. Then you should have no problems.
If you still want to connect the TV to the internet get another ethernet cable and plug this into the TV and another ethernet port on your modem.

so if I pull the ethernet cable out (of tv and/or/both sky), it should still work on wifi ??

If I go to services > network it just searches and finds nothing

Do you have Sky Satellite AND Sky Broadband?

Is the broadband from another provider?

What kind of Sky box do you have? The current Sky Q type, or an older one?

Ethernet into sky box. pulled sky plug/power out. waited a bit... now I AM "connected to router". "connected to broadband" (this I can find/confirm under 'services' > 'settings' > 'network', as I AM now connected to b/band. Broadband works. But what have I actually done ? Nothing ! It WILL fail again, I know. Wish I could sort....
