Giving up/ Cutting Down Alcohol Thread Part 16

That's difficult WBF. My DH drinks daily (but moderately). Normally it doesn't bother me at all as I'm usually off out in the evening or whatever but at the moment it does give me a twinge. I'm ignoring it so far and fortunately this week seems a bit better than last.Wanna_Bee_Free said:
Having accountability on here to all of you is a real help right now, especially while my OH is necking wine without me.
4/10 AFDs please Shaggy.

Please may I ask if anyone would care to share when they thought their drinking needed to be addressed and why. Some of you have been around this thread for years but what brought you here?No problem if you’d rather not say, I’m being nosy. 🤣Live for the moment and plan for the future4

No problem cuppa. 🙂
I'd just gradually changed my lifestyle and drinking (too much) had become part of it. Mainly promotion in my job to something more sedentary and very stressful. Then home late evening and rewarding myself with wine. Added to that lots of missed meals, snacking with the wine and grabbed rubbish in petrol stations meant I'd gradually put on 3+ stone in weight. So, first I came on here and cut down drinking to mainly weekends. Then I joined Slimming World and sorted out the eating side of things. Within a year, I was back to my normal weight and I've stuck to it ever since. 😁
So basically I'd got into bad habits and the structure of the thread (and subsequently SW ) was just what I needed. I like a plan. 😉5 -
I had been trying to cut down for years, probably 2007 I started trying? ... and I would always succeed at first, I'd go off the booze for a month to three months and then when I went back on I wouldn't feel the need to drink much and I would feel better. But it would never last, the urge to drink more would creep up over time and then I'd find I was drinking way too much again. About four or years ago I strongly felt I was at a turning point where it would either get the better of me or I would really have to get to grips with it. It was (very roughly) around then that I ran across this thread. It has worked for me like a charm where nothing else has. Not sure why!CuppaTea said:Please may I ask if anyone would care to share when they thought their drinking needed to be addressed and why. I ran across this thread at a time when it was creeping up on me. Without this thread I think it would have spiralled by now. I still drink more than many on here but knowing the thread is out there helps me somehow. I am better at telling friends I am not drinking and not changing my mind but at the start I found it hard to withstand peer pressure. Back ages ago this thread seemed very welcoming with Molly Polly and the stalwarts then. I never thought I would still be posting all this time later!6

I think I would have chosen a better user name if I had known! Plus I didn't know Wanna Be Free would be so similar to my handle either.

Wanna Bee Free, I like your username! ... Re your earlier comment, I feel the same way that you do, I think without this thread my drinking habits would have spiralled totally out of control.
