TKMaxx sell ski tubes quite cheaply, and also do sallopettes and ski jackets, and googles, and glasses.

Make sure the jacket has zippable pockets (for lip balm, goggles etc...), and some sort of hook to clip ski pass on to. Gloves with hooks are more useful, as you can clip them onto jacket during lunch and not loose them!

Moon boots and walking boots and not generally required, and a pair of trainers will do.

Make sure he takes lots of socks, coz they get wet!!

I always take a hat and bandana, coz it does get rather hot sometimes. I also have breathable sallopettes that unzip down the inner thigh!!

The most useful thing I ever take is a velcro ski clip to tie the skis together when you have to carry them! SO useful, and makes it 100 times easier to carry the skis wihtout them slipping apart!!

A small pocket sized water bottle can sometimes be useful too, if he doesn't wanna spend alot in mountain cafés.

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

I don't know if they still sell them, but when my eldest went snowboarding we got his jacket and salopettes from Asda - they were good value and he said kept him really warm.
Also when skiing layers is the key. He said he got pretty warm at times on the mountain and it was good to be able to strip off a layer.
No reliance should be placed on the above.

  • I've always felt the cold when I've been ski-ing in January, but last year bought some "Fourth element" thermal underwear from a scuba diving shop. Kept me warm as toast and I would definitely recommend them. I just wish they did them for children.

Added on 7th dec: Ah Ha, found some fab ski-ing thermals for children on littletrekkers.co.uk - definitely recommend the Five Seasons at £11.99 a set and also, if you are going in January (like us) try the Manbi Microfleece Thermals at £19.99 a set - very snug especially for little ones.

Lidl are selling skiwear on Thursday www.lidl.co.uk. I bought some trousers with detachable braces from them last year for £19.99 - they were and are really warm and quite stylish. I usually take a few pairs of salopettes or trousers when I go skiing and I wore my Lidl purchase the whole time I was away and the other pairs stayed in my suitcase. My ski gloves also came from Lidl - I have a kids size because of my small hands and these are excellent and come complete with a clip to clip them together and then onto the jacket.

A tip when trying on ski trousers is to see if you can squat comfortably in them - if you can then they are for you, if not try a different size.

I shall be going to see what else I can get on Thursday - I know that they will be selling gloves, jackets (£30), socks, goggles etc.

Hope your son has a great holiday.
  • Im going to pay them a visit on thursday as well. May work out cheaper than hiring some items.

I've seen Lidl skiwear recommended on here before as being good quality.

Just check it is cheaper than e-bay, the noticeboard at your local dry ski slope etc.;)

Don't forget to make him save up plenty pocket money- ski resorts tend to be pricy, he'll need plenty money for a hot chocolate.
