No gas supply - meter faulty!

Options
Hi all
So I got home from work on Friday and found my boiler not working. Error code says no gas supply to my property. I check my meter and it just says xxxxxxxxx. My plumber advises that the faulty meter is to blame for lack of gas supply.

I call SGN who say they can’t help and I have to call my gas supplier. I call Avro and they are closed and not open again until Monday!!

It’s now Sunday night and I’ve had no heating or hot water since Friday. I plan to call Avro first thing tomorrow, but can someone please advise whether I am entitled to any compensation? I find it hard to believe that a gas supplier can be ‘closed’ over the weekend and not taking calls!!!

Did you call 'National Gas emergency line' on 0800 111 999?

Edit: I wasn't familiar with SGN until I googled it, I presume this is the same as the number I gave you, sounds like a nightmare, hope you get it sorted quick.
  • No I just called SGN who said the meter belongs to Avro so they can’t touch it?
  • I thought meters were owned by the actual gas pipeline supplier , is it centrica ?

"the meter belongs to Avro "

so if you move from AVRO , do they sell the meter to the new suplier ?

Its probably got SGN on the prepayment meter,my previous meter was SSE/Ebico and Southern Gas Network replaced mine when the screen went fives stars and blank, however the supply remained on.When I transfered to British Gas the engineer placed one of their stickers over SGN's logo so yes they become the property of the supplier.

These battery powered gas meters become suspect after around two years'.
  • I have prepay , have changed supplier about 4 times , no stickers , thought they where "generic" meter readers , ie reading everyone on street

They only put a British Gas sticker on when they exchanged mine for a leased Meter Fit 5 smart version. Its the same meter with different software and without a card slot.It can take an engineer four hours' to attend these faults and exchange the meter, its also happens at the worst time and is very inconvenient.
  • Another reason (adding to the many!) to avoid these so called 'smart' meters!

I don't think this is a Smart meter issue but a digital meter with a failing battery.

You could have blamed it on Brexit as well
