Your monthly spending budgets?

Most people here seem to be using YNAB or similar. Out of plain curiosity, what is your actual allocated budget per category?

Here's mine:

Eating Out £250.00
Transport £175.00 (TFL, plus occasional train or uber)
Groceries £150.00
Entertainment £250.00
Shopping £100.00 (clothes, stuff off Amazon)
Tech £100* (used to 'pay off' big items e.g. TV, computers, phone)
Saved for holidays: £150 / month

Total = £1175.

I suspect this is pretty high? Until a year ago I was saving for a mortgage and my budget was £500 a month. But, I've found I take to a better lifestyle a little too easily :rotfl:

This is just my budget for discretionary spending, excluding committed spending and saving.

My monthly spending budget is dictated by what is left after I've paid for things like mortgage, utilities etc

Interesting everyone else so far has 0 budgeted for shopping. Surely you must need to budget something? Clothes only last so long! Even when I was on my tightest ever budget, I had £15 / month budgeted for this.

And nothing for entertainment? Not even the occasional round in the pub, concert, dinner out with friends etc?

I am currently massively overspending on holidays and long weekends so am trying really hard not to spend much on anything else.
    Trying but not succeeding. :o

I haven't got a current budget per category per se, but I have been closely tracking our spending since Sept 2016 and our average monthly outgoings, for everything, comes to £1035 p.m.

2 Adults, 4 bed house, no mortgage, no pets.
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 3.24% of current retirement "pot" (as at end December 2025)

Clothes I rarely buy, I do make mine last as I have 'work' stuff and 'home' stuff. Tights / smalls come out my food shop if I had to split it off it would be £1 pw for them.

Pub rarely happens as I think it's too expensive, I've been to a club once since I moved (just over 2 years ago) and took £30. I'm currently working (temping) part-time and in total earn less than someone working full-time on minimum wage. My priority since moving has always been to buy my own place. Oh I'm also in my 40's as are most of my friends, some are older, we prefer going round each others properties for a drink, chat and party and again that comes out my food budget.

A few months ago when in my permanent job I had the same amount of 'spare' money each month after outgoings as I earn before deductions in my temp job.

I work to a tight budget to pay debts, outgoings and save that's my priority.
