Ok, things have been going badly for me this week. Then yesterday i went to visit my sister(where i used to live) There was a pile of post for me. The was usual junk but also letters from HFC bank. They said i had not paid and my account is in arrears.

I phoned them when i got back home. I gave them the account number of which they have no record. So i gave my old address and name and they found on system that i have £2800 owing. I don't know anything about this. I asked for some form of agreement/paperwork and they said they dont have any as it dates back to 2001.

I phoned CCCS staight away because they are in the process of setting up a DMP and i dont want this extra debt to jeopardise that. They were very helpful and said i should request a credit agreement. I'm sure i have seen a template on here before. She said allow 14 days and send it recorded delivery.

Should i disclose my new address?? i dont really weant any further correspondance going to my sisters.

Can anyone offer any advice please. Not sure how much more of this i can take.

To be honest, as the debt is statute barred anyway, they dont have any of your details, I would ignore this.

Why waste money, if they do however continue to send letters to your sisters, i would make one last phone call (use saynoto0870 ;) ) stating the information you have in these letters.

If you're going to write to them and give your address on the letter as your old address, i.e. the one they have on record, and avoid having to give them your current details, then perhaps you could write it as c/o? Can you set up a redirection from that address to your current one? It costs about £12 for a month I think, but maybe worth it if it's going to save a lot of hassle.

I'm not good on this sort of thing though, so not sure if that's the right advice, just what I'd do! Maybe someone else can advise if I'm talking tosh?
  • dont know where to go on this with regards to teh addresses now. i dont want any more letters going to my sisters
  • (use saynoto0870 ;) ) what does that mean??

But my worry is that that will just keep sending letters to my other address. Is that ok to do that??

To be perfectly honest, if they continue to send letters to you at your sister's address, she is under no legal obligation whatsoever to pass them on to you, or, indeed to give HFC your new address. If she wishes, she can simply write 'Return to Sender' or 'No Longer at this Address' on them and drop them in the Post Box.

I think Pandapaws idea is the best. It means you don't have to give the bank you new address but all post sent to your sisters will be intercepted by the post office and will be forwarded to you.
Just say no to 0870 is a website with alternative telephone numbers. 0870 numbers can be very expensive to call.
Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)
  • The redirection is another £12 i cant afford. This is doing my head in.

I can understand how you feel, so why not go and make yourself a cup of tea, sit down and look at your overall situation - write down your income, your monthly expenses and list all debts, including this one. This will give you an SOA (Statement of Affairs) which you can post, on this forum, and you will get loads of ood advice on how best to tackle your debts.
Also, give one of the Debt Counselling Charities a ring - I suggest National Debtline or CAB, in specific regard to this current problem. They will be able to advise on the best solution for you.

use saynoto0870 ;) ) what does that mean??

saynoto0870 is a website that allows you to access geographic numbers for companies/government depts etc that try to make you use rip off 0870 and 0845 numbers, where said organisations receive a proportion of the call cost. This website is particularly useful for people who, like me, have an inclusive telephone package. saynoto0870 is not foolproof, but it is very rare indeed that I have been forced into dialling an 0870 number.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

This site is reccomended, and part sponsored, by Martin LEWIS, who currently has a petition running, on saynoto0870 homepage, asking for the abolishment of 'Rip Off' 0870 and 0845 numbers.

So please feel free to visit and sign.
