Can anyone open a savings account? Ive never ever had one before in my life. I assume its seperate from a bank account and has no direct debits etc. Is the only reason for a savings account that its better interest then a normal bank account? Do you get credit checked?0

Google?
Yes you can open a savings account.
No there isn't a credit check to open one.
The reason would be for the ongoing interest rates
Can you tell it's school holidays yet?0 -
wont they? What is the purpose of a SAR if they wont back down?
The purpose of a SAR is to discover what information an organisation holds about you, not to badger them into submission. In fact, a SAR can be refused if it was submitted for "vexatious" purposes (i.e. was raised merely to annoy or harass).0 -
Also did you have any issues with your flex basic at paying at petrol pumps. I believe only barclays and nationwide allow this on their basic accounts
I think the issue with the Automated Fuel Dispensers (AFD) is that they seek approval for £1 and then allow you to take up to £99 in fuel. That increases the risk (to your bank) of the account going overdrawn. By forcing you to use the kiosk to pay, they transfer that risk to the retailer, because your issuer can simply decline authorisation if you try to pay and there isn't enough cash in the account to cover it.0
