You've had the answer which you clearly don't accept.

Have you thought about this from another angle?
Your mother is 65 which ISN'T OLD. She may well have 30 more years on the clock. Frankly in 2019 she needs to learn some basics about technology - this will only get "worse" ie. more online.

There's plenty now you can do online, on paper, or in person. This will change in the next 30 years to be more online - voting for example. But countless other things, notably banking, shopping, and things that really free up time like renewing library books. So you should put your energy into teaching her the basics - perhaps with an ipad.

My mother in her 80s really is rubbish with tech. But she can receive pictures on her ipad, send texts on her phone and we've just taught her how to WhatsApp and she now keeps in touch with her very large family using that! This is tech really helping her life with a family spread out over the country (and overseas). Getting pics of her first great grandchild within hours of birth was amazing for her - and could be for your mum too.

I don’t want to be harsh, but at 65 your mother is just middle aged, not elderly and email is the most basics of computing skills

Maybe your mum finds windows too complex, my husband did, but got an iPhone and an iPad, he now does all his own basic computing now , he can even send attachments, print pictures , copy and paste etc, all the things I had to do for him. He got his 80 year old landlord onto using one as well, another who couldn’t manage a pc

It maybe the the simplicity of iPads may be the way forward for them

I have now set up an email address for her, as advice clearly states theres nothing she can do.

For those surprised that she's hasn't had to use a computer before, she works doing home help, so doesn't need a computer for that, and as for at home, they were in a broadband "not spot" for internet through the phone line. it was only in the last couple of years that I was able to finally get a 3g signal. so they haven't really had any need for it. Anything that requires online forms has always been left for me.

I would encourage her to explore what a computer can do for her: I understand it can be a struggle, but she might also find it opens doors she never knew were there! If she has hobbies, you might like to explore what some of those doors might be: for example, I've taken up knitting, and find it really useful to be able to look up demonstrations of how to do things I'm not sure about. If she can find a course at a local library for Silver Surfers, that might help too.
