Charge for cancelling final Bulb direct debit?

Options
Hi. I changed to Bulb credit meter a few weeks back. I was previously on smart pay as you go with BG. I've decided to go back to BG as I hate the thought of not being in control of my gas and electricity bills. May sound strange and more expensive to some but it's personally how I feel. I was going to cancel my direct debit to Bulb and pay the final bill when it arrives as Bulb charge you upfront and British Gas will have taken over by then. I've had an email from Bulb saying not to cancel the direct debit before the final payment as I will incur a charge. Is this true? If so, how much? I can't find anything about it online.

TIA

It's true. See term 9.3 which you agreed to abide by,
  • Ahh, I see it now. I'll phone them tomorrow and ask. Thank you

  • Well, if you want to pay more for energy that's up to you!
  • Have you checked with British Gas that you'll be going back to smart prepay?

It's just I don't think the Smets 1 smart meters reconnect even if you go back to a supplier they worked with.

I have to use my meters as credit meters until they fit new smart prepay meters which should take about 2 weeks.

  • Ahh, such waste!

Have you asked it they're SMETS 2 because you should make sure they're.

Apparently suppliers have been trying to offload the remaining SMETS 1 meters onto people.

  • Why don t you stay with Bulb on their prepay rates.Same low price as their Vari fair credit. With the new prepay cap prices BG are considerably more at the moment.
If Bulb fit Secure Liberty smart meters which most of the smaller suppliers use, then BG will have to change them. They cannot use these meters in smart prepayment mode.
