Hello everyone. Thank you all for continuing to think of me. I was persuaded by Oncology to try reduced doses of oral chemo but it has made me so ill that I have now withdrawn from treatment.. There is no point in extending my life if there is no quality. Will try and post a more positive message in a few days as the effects of the chemo wear off0

I salute you Poppy!
DM perked up enough to ask a friend to visit, cue a flurry of 'getting ready' and lots of activity. More than I've seen for four days.
The friend is a very long standing friend and ex-colleague of DMs, he's been very devoted to her since the 70s so it's good that they get time together. I took the opportunity to zip out to T esco for a new wash bowl, disinfectant and some shower gel.
I hope that the dull weather is lifting.0 -
Hello everyone,
DGC have gone home after being here since Friday afternoon.DGS is going away for a week tomorrow so DS2 wanted to spend a bit more time with him,DGD away on Thursday for a weekend break. Both DSons are out now- our weekend starts here :rotfl:Unfortunately DH is watching motor racing and Car SOS!
I havent had an online delivery last week so could do with some fresh bits,I dont have any fruit left, and the veg drawer is a bit depleted. I have managed to lose 1/2 stone so far & dont want to resort to eating rubbish!
Poppy thanks for updating us,lots of hugs to you.
Gers glad you could spend time with your friends
Put your feet up now TA
Hugs to anyone having a bad time xx
Will see if I can peel DH from the TV :rotfl::heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. (Eleanor Roosevelt)0 -

I hope the quality of life improves soon and also the quantity without side effects etc. Your spirit impresses me so much as does your determination to enjoy life despite the circumstances.
Gers
I am glad you were able to meet friends and had a short break as it will have done you good.
I got up fairly early to start cooking a healthy lasagne using sliced courgettes instead of pasta sheets and also assemble a salad as two dds were coming over. It ended up as eight portions of veg so I feel quite virtuous. It started to rain just before dds left so I had to dash out to collect the washing but think I managed to get it in time.
I gave DDs some lasagne and salad to take home and have some salmon with a mixed bean salad for tonight unless I decide it is miserable enough to make sausage and mash which is sounding very tempting.
Still have dirty dishes to put in dishwasher, laundry to sort and a parcel to open with paint for the garden fence and a few kitchen bits and bobs. I made the mistake of looking in the integral garage and my heart sank as it looks like a bomb hit it. To be fair some of the stuff is middle dd's and fiance which she will collect once her new house takes shape. Preps can get put away more tidily once two sets of shelves get assembled and there is a lot of baby stuff which I might be able to move out into low wall cupboards in an upstairs bedroom so all the baby stuff is together.
Hoping to contact an odd job person next week and make a start on a few small jobs like the shelves for garage, a shelf in my bedroom and a couple of shelves for the living room alcoves etc.

Elona - there will be a 'care and repair' service in your area. They offer such services (you pay for materials) for over 65s. There are some things they won't do (electrics etc) though the service for DM will give a list of recommended workmen for that. DM has used them for lots of odd jobs - new door handles, high light bulb changing and so on.
DM's visitor stayed for about two hours until she fell asleep. I got out and back very quickkly and enjoyed some quiet time. The nurse thinks that DM has oral thrush which may explain the not eating / drinking so we shall see what happens tomorrow.
My friends have been into my house, thrown out stuff from the fridge and raided my wine and wood collection. I have to say, it's a great weight off my mind now that they have been in to have a look. I had to warn the farmer in case he thought my friends were burglars!
I'm gearing up for LoD tonight.0 -
Poppy my thought and wishes are with you tonight I salute your bravery and hope your quality sustains you for longer.
I have been poorly for the past week or so with a bad chest infection which I can't seem to throw off I am taking my antibiotics as prescribed by my Dr and although feeling a wee bit better am troubled with this persistent cough I think I have tried every cough mixture known in the chemists, and its still hanging around .
Really cross as I had got through the winter relatively unscathed then about a fortnight ago one of the quiz team members turned up to quiz coughing, spluttering and sneezing over everyone I wasn't at all happy with this chap especially as everyone knows I have virtually little or no immunity to coughs and colds as a rule after chemo destroyed it
I make a point of steering clear of sick folk ,even my own family keep away when they have a cold .
I am not keen on this chap anyway as he has, shall we say a distinct aroma when he arrives in the pub,in the summer I take and use air freshener around our tables before he arrives I swear he isn't terribly hygenic and his wife seems to be immune to it .Well long story short I picked up his cold and within a couple of days was laid up in bed .Bearing in mind I hate being in bed anyway I have not had a great week or so.I eventually caved in and went to the Drs and he said it was a bad chest infection and lots of crackles on my lungs Grrr, We are due to go away tomorrow morning for our spring weeks holiday to the Isle of Wight so I am hoping tomorrow I shall be coughing less at least.
I can't understand why folk seem to enjoy passing on their germs to other people I have been stuck indoors all week apart from the Drs I have only been as far as my washing line to hang out some washing . I went to Dds tonight as she insisted I come for dinner .Fingers crossed all will be a bit better tomorrow as we are due to leave around 10.30 to drive to Portsmouth for the ferry.
Plus of course to top things off I have been unable to get online very easily as my data didn't renew until Thursday,so not been a great week.
But enough of my woes ,I hope your DM gets her appetite back Gers, I know how she feels I have not been eating much myself and just couldn't be bothered to cook either which is not at all like me , mostly lived on quick and easy things, one day I actually had cereal mid afternoon as I hadn't felt like eating at all and everything tasted of cotton wool, but I thought at least cereal will get me to have some milk.
Right I am off to bed shortly as my head is still full of catarrh, so perhaps another early night will help.
Hope everyone is OK and not too many upsets have been happening whilst I have been off.
Take care chums, maybe a bit of sunshine this week will help, its been a very damp and dreary couple of days weatherwise
Cheers
