O/S Daily Sunday 7th April 2019

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one, those that are poorly and those looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Dull and cloudy start to the day here, forecast doesn't look great either for the coming days - rain is forecast.

Dinner last night was a selection of hot quiche, pork pie, beef shish kebab and cajun pork chops, some side salad, stuffed jacket potato, coleslaw, pasta salad, enjoyed something different.

Visited the parents yesterday afternoon so we have an easier day today. I'll be cooking roast pork, roasties, mash, cauli/broc cheese, carrots, swede, peas, yorkshires and gravy. I'll organise pack ups whilst roast is cooking.

Keep safe and well x

  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Drab and dull outside but no rain so it's not all bad. Yesterday was almost like a summer's day.

Youngest DGD up and playing on her tablet. Eldest still in bed. Youngest has a tap exam this morning and is getting picked up in about an hour. Need to feed her shortly and then supervise her getting dressed! Eldest will walk down home later. They are all out for lunch later as it's their other grandma's birthday.

I left some chicken out defrosting for my lunch but yet to decide what meal it will manifest into. Such decisions.

Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely. Take care xx

    Good morning all

Thank you for starting us off nmlc

    Welcome Mary
    Dumpling, how's your leg?

TA hope your dgd does well in her tap exam

Weather doesn't look good at the moment, very misty/foggy. Think I'll have a lazy day :D

Nelski when I put food in the freezer I try and write on the bag with a sharpie pen as labels always seem to fall off or I cut the name from the original packaging (along with cooking instructions if needed) and pop them in the bag before sealing. I got a bit fed up with strange combinations or thinking I had dinner when I had dessert.
Special thoughts for all those finding life difficult

Good morning and thanks for starting NMLC.

Its a miserable damp grey morning here, hope it's not as cold as yesterday.

We're popping off in the caravan today, thanks to all you lovely people who wished us a happy time - TA, hope your daughter and family enjoy their caravan break as well.

I was just thinking yesterday about the people who don't post any more - Ollie Beak always did nice posts, and hassn't done so since Christmas, also Tru, and others. What's happened to you all? I know you mentioned this as welll TA, a day or two ago.

I'd better go and do a few jobs anyway - hope your Dgd does well in her tap exam TA. I longed for dancing lessons, particularly tap, I knew another little girl who did tap, and had red tap shoes, and oh how I wanted rsd tap shoes!! I've always liked red shoes, even now at the age of 71!! I wanted my daughter to have dancing lessons (talk about living your life through your children) but she wasn't interested.

Righr, I really am going to stop waffling and clear off,

Thinking of all the sad and poorly.

    Take care folks xx

Silver, just popped back to say I do the same as you - cut cooking instructions off packaging and put in the freezer bag - we've had odd meals in the past cos of labels dropping off, Mind, Lak*land freezer labels are pretty good.

Also, forgot to say, welcome Mary.

    Morning All

Another drab day here but I've no washing to do so I'm not really bothered although I was going to tidy up in the garden but that can wait.

I spent a few hours at the allotment yesterday afternoon, I had completely forgotten about all the leeks growing away there. I've pulled them all and need to do something with them, probably cut them and put them in the freezer but I'll see if the neighbours want any first, there's an Ikea bag full!

I've quite a few odd jobs to do today, some of the screws arrived for DGSs little bed, the ones that hold the slats in place so I'll get them on before they disappear!

Hope you all have a happy Sunday, take care. XX

    Good morning everyone.

    Dull, dull and dull outside.

ScarletRibbons - I too love red shoes and recently bought a couple of pairs. The Flyflot ones are lovely and the Eco ones even more lovely.

Meeting up with my friends yesterday was so gorgeous. We've been friends since 2001 so we just fall into our friendship every time we get together. It had been two years since our last meeting so an hour in the cafe at Tesco was just not enough. They are now in their holiday cottage, hopefully drinking some of my wine and burning some of my wood!

The district nurse will be calling round again and then I'll walk round to Tesco to buy a new basin, the ones DM has are not suitable for bed washes. DM didn't eat much yesterday, after a good morning she had a much worse afternoon and evening. There's now a half eaten bowl of porridge in the fridge, a small pile of uneaten sandwiches and a half empty bowl of rusks in milk all in the fridge. I'm trying to 'obey' her instructions to not throw them out! I will be doing exactly that later today if they are not eaten later.

Now for a shower and the rest of the day. My thoughts are with all those struggling and all those 'missing'.

    Happy Sunday.
  • Back with you after my flying visit earlier. DGD got picked up at 8.30 as planned and I then enjoyed my porridge and berries in peace. DW loaded and now doing it's thing. Eldest DGD still closeted in her bedroom but whether asleep or messing on her phone I don't know!

All the red shoe love has made me smile! Be it tap shoes or proper shoes! My first heeled shoes many moons ago were a maroon colour but how I wished they were bright red! My mum said I would look common in red shoes! How times change!

I was never into dancing as a child. Far too gormless for that! I preferred playing Cowboys and Indians with the lads. But only if I could be the Range Rider! But in secret I loved reading about Belle of the Ballet in my "Girl" comic and dreamed I was like her!

My DD never took to dancing either, nor did eldest DGD. The younger two are a different story and love their dancing,

GERS hope today is a better one for you and your DM. Your coffee meet up with your friends sounded enjoyable and took your mind off your problems for a little while.

    Take care all xx

    Morning :)

Grim here too such a difference from yesterday, still it gives permission for a pj and catch up day.

Had a mad busy cleaning day so it was lovely this morning to walk down to perfection...that wont last :D. Could have a run around upstairs today but doesn't really need it

Silver You are quite right and to be fair sometimes I do just that and therein lies the problem ...sometimes :D Also I use ziploc bags with a big white box to write in and quite often rinse them out and use again which means when the bag says its a lamb kofta this isnt always true  Anyway I am quite liking some of the mystery packages but when i start again I will get better I promise :o

Anyway today its a cooked chicken breast and some pigs in blankets. I'll do some spuds and leeks that I got from lidl last week....camelot I wish I was closer I would take an armful I adore leeks (have you tried glamorgan sausages...so good.

SR enjoy your holiday hope the weather improves

Gers my mother is a no throw away person too it can be very frustrating at times she even orders food when we are out based on how big she thinks things will be or if she can take it home after. I once watched her order ham and chips, she immediatly packed the ham up in tin foil and just ate the chips  Anyway hope your mum can finish her food ok today Shame you cant be with your friends in your holiday cottage

    TA enjoy a chilled day

Sunday Brunch to watch now and the Durrells for later ...tis a good day ...btw taff no worries I still enjoyed it and it is my fault for saving to watch later

Have a super sunday all whatever you're up to

Just a quick pop in for me as I've been up all night with a stomach bug :o. So lunch has been cancelled, I've managed half a cup of tea and I'm back off to bed.
    Take care all

Its a beautiful day here (sorry but I seen to have knicked the sun again :D)

Have got a load of washing on the line and another in the wm.

I bought a new bedding set yesterday and Im itching to get it on so may do that after this.

We have a lovely tapas style dinner last night lots of lovely different dishes which is my favourite type of meal, it was very tasty.

Today we are having roast lamb and all the trimmings and I will do extra so we can have it tomorrow too, I think I will put the lamb in a low oven while we are out so that it cooks slowly with garlic and herbs.

We will take the pup for a long walk today, we try and find somewhere different to go so will be looking at the map.

    Have good days all xx
